I hope it works out for him. He deserves the gig in my opinion.

Re: UNCC fires Price, Fancher interim coach
Timing is so bizarre that my immediate thought was that there must be some kind of off-court issue, but none of the quotes from Rose or the chancellor indicate anything like that.

They are giving Judy a lot of heat. Students and the message board want her gone. Men's Soccer (twice) is the only sport to make the NCAA's in the last three years, although not this year.
Price may have wanted out, or may not have wanted to be a part of a sinking ship. Judy will retire within a year.

I talked to a 49er alumnus friend who is fairly connected. The ones that want her gone right now are a small vocal group ( many who are not givers or very small donaters)...not including the larger donors...specifically the one that wanted her name on the building. That may change but not for the moment.

Re: UNCC fires Price, Fancher interim coach
In short, Price couldn't recruit. He managed to beat App, but so did about every mediocre-to-bad team on our schedule in the last three years. The 9ers had one of the highest attrition rates in Division I during the short Price era. He'd regularly yank the scholarships of five to seven players after each season and then go out and sign a busload of new, warm bodies who couldn't play. It just wasn't going to work for him.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 12:36 pmTiming is so bizarre that my immediate thought was that there must be some kind of off-court issue, but none of the quotes from Rose or the chancellor indicate anything like that.
The NCAAMBB silly season claims an early casualty!
Best regards to Houston. If he can serve up sweet lemonade in Halton
his season, then he's an executive chef.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

So Price went 30-42 in less than 2.5 seasons. How does our coach compare?

It's not our primary sport. Fans are apathetic to basketball at App. Yet the attrition has been bad at both places for various reasons.

I really hate both those statements because if we did have a successful program we would have fan support and then nobody could say "It's not our primary sport". We could have both Football and Basketball as serious sports.

Re: UNCC fires Price, Fancher interim coach
I agree but I think just comparing overall records is a loaded question. Price didn't inherit a program with a postseason ban and virtually no players returning, nor one that won five D1 games the previous season.
Which isn't to say he would have succeeded, mind you. Again, just odd timing.

It was tongue in cheek more than anything. I wish both sports were serious. But basketball has had 2 or 3 good years since Buzz left the first time.

the apathy began, became ingrained and was cemented under....Houston Fancher.

No, apathy definitely did not. Do not speak unless you know facts. Players and staff had great relationships with the students and community. That continued under Buzz for 1 season than stopped and Fox is doing a solid job repairing relationships. But he can't do the job of the marketing department that has been a ghost for basketball since at least 2008.

We could have rolled this into the "UNCC dumpster fire" thread we had going over the last few months. You almost feel bad for these fans, then you remember how hot headed they were when football started up for them.
I took a look at their football recruits they have committed so far this year, not looking so good. While some may develop into fine players as the star system is pretty flawed, it's hard to say you are getting FBS recruits when most don't have any FBS offers besides UNCC. Marshall and USM fans are commenting that UNCC's football program recruits at a mid tier FCS level.

Based on previous results “mid tier FCS” would be an upgrade.

Harsh criticism coming from fans of schools that UNCC beat in 2016.manonabuffalo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 12:27 pmMarshall and USM fans are commenting that UNCC's football program recruits at a mid tier FCS level.
Back on track, I wish Fancher success. His score is through the roof on my nice person index.
