This is getting out of hand.

$2.5 for the DC. This is more than 75% (my guess) of head coaches pay.

35% make more. But still agreed it's out of hand.

This level of stupidity is not sustainable. It will collapse upon itself at some point in the not so distant future.

It will be interesting to see when the bubble bursts. With less youth playing football, for parents fear of injury, and more people pulling the plug on cable it should just be a matter of time. Cable companies pay insane money to the conferences to cover a sport that may have significantly less participants within 10 years, all the while losing subscription money as viewers choose free online access. This doesn't seem like a wise long term decision.

If someone paid me a few mil to be a DC for a year, I'd say yes, no questions asked. I won't guarantee anything, but damn will I make out like a champ when they fire me. I'm still surprised that amateur sports coaches can be the highest paid government employees. The revenue coming in won't begin to cover these ever-ballooning salaries.

Ehh most colleges that pay their employees like this can easily afford it. Bama could pay Saban 15 million a year and it would be worth every penny.

As crazy as it sounds, Orgeron's salary of $3.5 mil is probably relatively modest for a school at that level (which it should be, as he's never really done anything to warrant landing a job like that in the first place). So maybe they're following a model of paying the HC less but the assistants more.

Defense ranked 12th in yards and 14th in scoring. Good numbers, but does having a top 15 defense with the type of talent LSU recruits really make you THAT good of a defensive mind?

They can afford it now, but the revenue stream is not going to last forever.

Golic calls it amazing. I call it outlandish and completely out of hand.

Didn’t read the article but the guys getting that kind of money are typically called “defensive geniuses” or even “defensive gurus”. I truly do love watching college and pro football but these tags some guys get are completely ridiculous. Hard to say what any coach should be paid but overall it’s way out of hand. We talk and talk about when and if Satt will leave for “the big paycheck”. Seems to me he’s doing pretty well. How many people (much less coaches) make more than $750,000 a year. Not many.
