Maybe. None of us know for sure, but I think he would consider it. It's hard for some guys to go back to assistant after HC. Not sure if he's one of those guys. Time will tell.

SE is only the "enemy" for one game per year.

Cobb did some good things for App...mostly in football. I don't hate him but I do think he stayed beyond his expiration date. The two issues already mentioned were the primary things I didn't like about him. He didn't do a great job with coaching hires in general, excluding Satterfield which was a no-brainer and required no effort.

GSU could become a good rival if things continue the way they are headed. GS will be back though.
Satt was as no brainer but it took a lot of nerve to promote him when he did. The easy thing would've been to just let Moore ride it out as long as he chose.

He'll be the coach to usher us into a P5 conference. 8-)

What I think about when I hear or read "Charlie Cobb"
  • The Jerry Moore PR nightmare
  • Jason Capel over Matt McMahon - honestly, probably his worst move
  • Creating the Buzz Peterson mess - yes, it was his fault.
  • Setting back the baseball program YEARS with Pollard's replacement - baseball was 21-34 only TWO years after going 41-18 in 2012
  • Calling the SBC a glorified FCS conference to woo CUSA - who thinks CUSA > Sun Belt today?
  • Satt wasn't even his first choice. This might not be a fair criticism since he did end up hiring Satt but I'm on a roll.

I agree. Letting Moore stay would have been the easy call, so I give him credit for making the difficult decision. Unfortunately, he totally botched the execution.

My personal opinion on ADs at our level if they don't move on after 6-7 years then they usually taper off. Meaning the message gets stale.

The Pollard situation still makes me mad. That was an incredible run in 2012 to not retain any of the momentum was criminal. Who was Cobbs first choice for FB?

The search committee felt Tim Horton did a better job in the interviews than anyone else. But the job was Scott's before the "search" even began. The search was just dotting i's and crossing t's. And Tim, who knew it was a moot point but applied anyway, has said he plans on applying again when Scott leaves. He said back then that Scott would leave the program in better shape than it was in then.

I certainly hope that when the time comes Coach Horton is a serious candidate. He's a good man and a good coach. Who knows whether he'll be the best candidate at that time but he certainly should be given serious consideration.

It's actually comforting to know that someone of Horton's caliber continues to be interested. No idea who the choices might be whenever that happens, but looks like we could do far worse. The way we are going though, I imagine we'll have plenty of very qualified candidates.

Yes but Chancellor Peacock vetoed the decision. He’s a Tim Burton Batman guy.

It’s not. But look on the bright side! CC is no longer AD!

Cobb has really bad tunnel vision when it comes to hiring head coaches. He got embarrassed when he all-but publicly handed the MBB job to Bobby Lutz in his Fire Capel teleconference only for Lutz to turn it down. He got lucky that Mr. and Mrs. McKillop told him he was an idiot if he didn't hire Jim.
