Do a little digging. That guy is a lot like Satt. He is a principals first coach....

Re: Mike Houston new Head Coach at Charlotte
People who don't think Will Healy is a pretty good hire don't have a solid grasp on what an extraordinary garbage fire Austin Peay has been for... well, practically forever.
Between 2012 and 2016-- five seasons-- Austin Peay won a TOTAL of three games. That's 2-9, 0-12, 1-11, 0-11, 0-11.
Then Healy got them to 8-4. They won 7 conference games that year and finished second in their conference and just out of the playoffs.
He was apparently being courted by South Alabama, so AP gave him a raise to $215k a year, making him the highest paid coach in the OVC. Pay-wise, this is as big a jump for him as UL is for Satt.

They didn't do as well this past season, but they're still worlds ahead of where they were.
Is it a home run? Nah. But the guy has done a lot with almost nothing to work with. No dumpster fire is too dumpstery, and Charlotte needs a coach that doesn't believe there's such a thing as a lost cause.
He then put AP on the path to their first three-game win streak since 1986. It had been THIRTY YEARS since they won three games in a row!The Governors entered the 2017 season on the longest losing streak in Division I football and promptly lost their first two games to FBS opponents Cincinnati and Miami.
That extended the streak to 29 games. It had stretched through two coaching staffs and parts of four seasons.
The streak finally ended when Healy led the Govs to a 69-13 win over Morehead State on Sept. 16, 2017.
Austin Peay annihilated the Eagles by jumping out to a 42-7 lead in the first half and going on to pile up 668 total offensive yards.
It was the most points scored by Austin Peay since scoring 73 against Morehead State in 1994 and the largest margin of victory (55) since defeating Kentucky Wesleyan in 1994.

Re: Mike Houston new Head Coach at Charlotte
I think it's a high risk high reward hire. But I think it's worth the risk for Charlotte, they can win 6 games in the next 3 years and then start over using the same "sleeping giant" label they have forever. I wouldn't have liked it for us, but I think Healy could kill it at Charlotte honestly. You have to realize that Austin Peay was maybe the worst program in all of the FCS. I think the three years before Healy got there they had a combined record of 0-33. His first year there he went 0-11. By his second year? They were 8-4.
By all accounts he's an insane recruiter and has an infectious personality. Still really young, but in two years he literally resurrected one of the worst programs college football had ever seen. Apparently he's also built a nice fanbase and huge sense of community at Austin Peay. I think he could either kill it with Charlotte's abundant resources or be in way over his head. He's super young. But everyone who has ever been around him says he's absolutely legit.
It is interesting he went from 8-4 to 5-6, but that's not too alarming. Austin Peay was still clearly trending up despite this year being a bit of a stepback.
I think it's a good hire for UNCC.

13-10 in the OVC with the most recent season ending with a losing record doesn't strike me as FBS head coach material at all, even though he has experience with dumpster fires. They should have just struck with Lambert if this is their man.
To think they had a proven winner with Mike Houston. WOW.

He had two top 5 FCS recruiting classes at Austin Peay his first two years there. That's insane that he was able to do that considering how the program had been in such terrible shape.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 1:40 pm13-10 in the OVC with the most recent season ending with a losing record doesn't strike me as FBS head coach material at all, even though he has experience with dumpster fires.
