Neal Brown mentioned as a leading Kansas State candidate:
"Kansas State chose Klieman over Troy coach Neal Brown, whose candidacy gained momentum in recent days."

He is leaving NDSU after the playoff run per today's updated news. Apparently, he negotiated for this provision...

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
KSU fans have gone crazy over this hire. Schools are delusional about what they are sometimes. It is like Louisville thinks they should win national titles when they are really just a 7-9 win program who should have occasional 4-6 win seasons too. The only reason I have such high expectations for us is because we have so much talent back, won 10 games this year, and were the 2nd youngest team in FBS. If we had 20 seniors I would in no way have these crazy high expectations. These schools need to know their state of the union so to speak and stop living in a dream world. I even know that App can't be a NY6 contender every year. It is not reasonable for any G5 or reasonable for a team in Kansas to expect to be a NY6 team every year either.
I actually think this is a very good hire for them. I would have loved to hire Kleiman for us but I know people in Boone wanted someone who has southeast recruiting ties. Kleiman will build those Texas connections and find the diamonds in the rough up in the midwest for them. I would have gladly taken him here and hope we keep him 3 years.

I'm glad he's staying through the playoffs, but it's still a huge distraction to a team on a mission.JGthatsme86 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:11 amHe is leaving NDSU after the playoff run per today's updated news. Apparently, he negotiated for this provision...

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
4 of 7 FBS schools in NC going through coaching change right now. The early signing date is making a mess for successful programs prepping for bowls and the struggling ones who terminated coaches. They should only allow January enrollment student athletes to sign in December. 3 NC programs now have hired coaches, but all are scrambling to maintain recruits or find new ones. Three FBS jobs open now per football scoop and that is punitive in recruiting process and has been to the 20 or so that had a change. Thankfully App's class is small but if they let all the coaching stuff settle, it would help the kids as well to know what schemes, cultures and programs they best fit into.

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
We need to remember that the early signing day was a HUGE benefit to App last year as it helped us sign the vast majority of our commits rather than letting the P5 pick them off while backfilling their last minute holes. It makes a mess this year but overall it benefits G5 programs.
If we are going to have this mess, this is the best year for it to happen. The roster is loaded. It's a small recruiting class (relatively) with only 12 seniors graduating. Let's keep things in perspective.

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
I think the P5s have changed their strategy for the early signing day based on what happened last year, and with our coaching change it's going to be kind of hard to gauge how it impacts us this year.

Looks like some cold weather destinations in the Ohio Valley Conference. Hope he learns how to cope better and whine less about the travel and the climate...BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 3:06 pmTime to add the shirt to the new coaches list. Hud to Austin Peay

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
But, it's the only way he could ever advance his career. NDSU makes a deep run every year and with the early signing date, he had to interview during the playoffs. It's less of a distraction than a coaching change during the playoff run. There's really no great answer in current times.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 12:27 pmI'm glad he's staying through the playoffs, but it's still a huge distraction to a team on a mission.JGthatsme86 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:11 amHe is leaving NDSU after the playoff run per today's updated news. Satt mentioned in the press conference that he'd only be keeping a few of the existing UL staff, so not surprising. The Rock wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 6:16 pmhttps://www.journalnow.com/sports/colle ... c559c.html

Re: Coaching Hires for Other Schools
Football Scoop Georgia State: Former Georgia Tech safeties coach Shiel Wood is joining Shawn Elliott’s staff as linebackers coach reports Ben Moore of 247. Prior to joining Paul Johnson’s staff this past year, Wood served as defensive coordinator at Wofford where he previously had coached with current Georgia State DC Nate Fuqua
Crazy how if he had joined Satt to replace Woody here he could possibly had been the DC at L'ville with a big pay check rather than a position coach for S Elliott.
