looks like the analysis was largely done based on revenues and market conditions and ignoring historical competitiveness.

Like the new conference merger idea, lol.

Make a new conference from a group like UAB, North Texas, ODU, Southern Miss, Marshall, Louisiana Tech, App State, Troy, Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, FIU, FAU, Coastal Carolina, and Georgia State

I like an eastern merger between CUSA and SBC, but leave FXUs out of it.

Harrisburg State can't exactly be taking this in stride. :D
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

They are more concerned about which division of the SEC they'll be placed in when they and James Madison are invited as traveling partners.

It's possible for the Author of the story to do a true Cost/Benefit analysis that involes utilizing expected expenses, revenue, and interest (or inflation) to determine if the NPV is positive or negative for a school. However, the author only says "it could be beneficial" or "it may". Well, instead of writing a story about a non-story with no definitive conclusion, how about producing some research to back your hypothesis?

And it appears the author uses attendance as the basis for moving up or down? Shoddy reporting. Hopefully this person keeps their day job.

"The jury’s still out on teams that recently jumped to FBS.

Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, UMass, Charlotte, Texas State, Old Dominion, and UTSA might not be suited for FBS. But let’s leave them out of the conversation for now."

App and Southern moved up around the same time or before most of these schools, yet we're included. CCU is the only school that was left out of their discussion by virtue of being new to the FBS that I feel deserves to be left out for such a reason.

What a discombobulated, incoherent mess. Who is this geek? He clearly does not know college football.

UNC-Commuter is a perfect fit for CAA; weak football, old basketball stories, and the delusional thoughts of the ACC or SEC wanting them. They even have an FCS stadium and an FCS coaching staff.

When you really get down to it, the only team that really should be in an FBS conference in North Carolina is UNC-Charlotte, because of its location in North Carolina's largest city. Win loss record does not matter at all.

I really hope this is sarcasm. If you look around college football, the best programs are usually in small college towns not large metropolitan cities. That was conference USA's plan it is has backfired in a big way.

Well, considering SBNation doesn’t pay most of its contributors, I’m sure he still has a day job. Sure, it’s not the most in-depth analysis, but if people aren’t coming to see your games in person, the school probably isn’t making any money. Therefore, a drop down to weaker competition might bring in more attendance and make more money.
