Mack Brown's staff

Unread post by appchicago » Tue Sep 03, 2019 2:37 pm

The Mack connection to App is clear, but have we talked about his staff including Sparky Woods, Stacy Searels, Darrell Moody, Lonnie Galloway, and some others with former App ties? Not surprising, I guess, and I know some of these guys have ties to Mack that go back to App or before, but I didn't realize Sparky and others were among Mack's hires.

Kind of crazy for him to draw so heavily from App. He only spent one season on the mountain.

True, but he's been a friend of the program for a long time...I believe he even still has a house up there.

To this day I remember him coming in on Saturday saying, I’m not going anywhere, and on Sunday he was gone. Can’t blame him, in college coaching you better make your money when you can, cause you can be on the street looking for a job in a minute.

Yeah, that really sucked and you're right about coaching...it's a carousel for sure.

Before accepting athletic director Jim Garner's offer to replace the fired Mike Working as head coach, Mack requested time to contact friends in collegiate coaching to see who would come to App with him as assistant coaches. JG offered him an office in Owens FH and use of an ASU WATS line to make calls. His first call was to Sparky. There's some confusion about who was first to accept but Sparky still claims to have been first to tell Mack "yes." Garner got Mack's decision to accept after he'd made under a dozen calls.

Yes but read this...

There's a $2.5 mil home on that tract now, but it's considerably smaller than the home that burned down. I can't confirm the ownership.

Avery County tax records show still owned by Coach Brown.
