Wake Forest 5-0
Mercy. Glad we're not playing Wake this year. Can't call them Weak Forest anymore. They face Louisville this week end.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
The conference alignments don't work but an App-Wake bowl game this year would be a barn-burner of a game...

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
Wake has their next three conference games at home (Louisville, Florida State and NC State) then at Virginia Tech. They could easily be 9-0 before a showdown with Clemson. Based on early returns they are better than the next 4 conference opponents.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
Can we use the transitive property of football and think APP is good good as Wake based on playing UNC a week apart?

I dont need the transitive property to know that we are better than Wake. They have a good qb and wrs but we are the better team. I wish we played them this year to prove it but we will just have to wait til next year .

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
I'd love to play them. Not that they aren't good, but it would a chance for a top 20 win without having to overcome a major athletic disadvantage.
They've beaten Utah State (by 3 at home), Rice, UNC (by 6 at home), Elon and BC (by 3). Nice start, kudos and all, but not anything to be terrified of.

I will say, big props to Wake.
Been making big strides these last few years. Great to see some better football in the ACC besides Clemson.
I hope them all the best until we play them next year.

Just comparing them to the teams they had that we beat. I don't believe we ever beat them when they had a winning record.

I'm with you that they look good but they aren't beating people by 25-30 every week so I think we could hang or beat them.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 9:52 amI'd love to play them. I'm not sure if possible but if both of us go undefeated and play in a NY6 game. I would love to see how we stack up with these guys. We just have to keep winning because we lose one game and there is no chance we play any team like them in a bowl game. Seeing us finish the year ranked in the top 20, win the SBC, and go to a NY6 Bowl against a team like Wake Forest, Iowa, etc would be great for our program.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
Yeah, but we were FCS back then and if we'd have figured out our kicking game by then we would've beat them in Boone but even so, a one point loss means we're at their level. Somebody has to lose when two teams play...they got lucky not just because of the missed FG and PAT but we had some real bone-head penalties in that game that affected the outcome.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
If they somehow went undefeated they'd be in the playoff. Without looking it up, I *think* this is one of the years where the ACC is guaranteed to send a team to the Orange Bowl, so if Clemson makes the playoff, Wake is probably in as decent a position as anyone to get that spot should they go 10-2 or certainly 11-1. I'm not sure they're quite that good, though.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:42 amI'm with you that they look good but they aren't beating people by 25-30 every week so I think we could hang or beat them.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 9:52 amI'd love to play them. IIRC the G5 NY6 rep is likely to go to the Cotton Bowl this year.

Some of the games were played before the FCS-FBS (I-A I-AA ) divide, if I'm not mistaken..

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
When I say undefeated I mean in the regular season. They would have to lose the ACC title game but wonder if a 12-1 Wake Forest team is ranked say 6th or 7th and we got them in a NY6 Bowl. That would be a huge one.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:13 amIf they somehow went undefeated they'd be in the playoff. I believe they lose 2 or 3 games by the end of the year. Lots of teams who are undefeated now who will finish 10-2 or even 9-3 I'm sure.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
I would love to play Wake this year.
They are absolutely a good team, but is their resume any better than ours?
Wins over Utah State, Rice, UNC-CH, Elon, and BC.
We know where both teams stand with the Tarheels, and as for the rest, Utah State is okay and the rest are probably pretty bad. Rice is 0-6, Elon's 2-4, and BC is 3-3 with bad wins and bad losses.
I'd love to see our offense square off with them, and while I think they'd score plenty on our defense (who hasn't?), it would be a fun game to watch.

not sure our schedule has a stellar record either, but I know we have a good of a team as we've ever fielded.appchicago wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 12:42 pmI would love to play Wake this year.

Re: Wake Forest 5-0
Oh absolutely. That's why I asked "is their resume any better than ours" rather than insisting our resume was better than theirs. Ours is certainly not more impressive, but the two are comparable.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:14 pm

SOS is always going to hurt us, and no matter how much we may deny it, even teams in P5 conferences having very bad years generally have much tougher schedules than 95% of G5 teams. But in this case, the only difference I see between the resumes is that they've played one more game than we have.
Though I will point out that we have both scored more points and allowed more points in 4 games than they have in 5. We've scored 188 and allowed 116 this season by my math, and they've scored 179 and allowed 105.
