Tar Heels recruiting
I see that the holes have the No.3 recruiting class so far. That is impressive and surprising. Maybe Mack Brown has some good years left in him after all.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
I’d be curious to see how many guys from their recruiting class ends up as their “hype guys,” meaning the guys running up and down the sideline slinging a towel to get fans into the game....

I guess the no-show classes are back. Frauds.
But frauds that lost 34-31.

You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig
In all honesty we knew Mack could and would recruit well. The real question is just how long he will stay at UNC and if the person who replaces him can continue what he is doing.
The only real culture in that football program is entitlement which isn't necessary their fault...just about every journalist in North Carolina went there and has a bias towards them, the ACC commissioner is a UNC grad, ESPN was run by a UNC grad for almost 20 years...so unless an overall cultural shift occurs then we will continue to see this peak and valley trend with UNC.
FYI I hate UNC sports in every way possible.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
It is somewhat funny to me how much we rally over our recruits and downplay other's (UNC, UNCC, ECU, etc) recruits as if they are insignificant. Nothing wrong with recognizing that Mack and others are doing a good job recruiting even if you still hate those schools.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone in this thread downplay Mack and his recruiting ability (exactly the opposite, actually). What I’ve seen is people hating UNC and their policies and ability to cheat the NCAA, while simultaneously acknowledging Mack as a recruiter. But that’s just what I’m seeing in this thread.t4pizza wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:12 pmIt is somewhat funny to me how much we rally over our recruits and downplay other's (UNC, UNCC, ECU, etc) recruits as if they are insignificant. Re: Tar Heels recruiting
I have zero love for the Tarheels but they are the epitome of the "sleeping giant" where football is concerned. They have tons of resources and an rabid fan base (although pointed toward basketball mostly). They have under achieved for years but we are kidding ourselves if we fail to acknowledge that they are a hire away from being a genuine force. Mack had them on track previously and he just might have enough left to do it again.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
Mack is building a force to be dealt with at UNC. App is continuing to build as well and we'll see how it plays out between the two programs in future meetings. App certainly struck to first blow in what could develop into an interesting instate rivalry in football...until a new coach or AD there decides to dodge again if things don't go their way.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
The only advantage that App has is that we have (we believe) our coach of the future. UNC effectively has an interim. They will have to make an exceptional hire to avoid history repeating itself.

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
This is a greater possibility than many think. If UNC continues to grow and succeed they will find themselves in a place where playing AppSt has little upside...It would be a tough win against a motivated opponent that results in little positives, or a loss that is ugly nationally and upsets fans.SpeedkingATL wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:50 pmMack is building a force to be dealt with at UNC. Re: Tar Heels recruiting
Everything you said is about UNC is true but can also be said about NCSU football and look where they are. Mack is an exceptional recruiter for players and coordinators. There might be a UNC version Dabo Sweeney out there waiting for Mack to retire but I'm not holding my breath.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 1:18 pmI have zero love for the Tarheels but they are the epitome of the "sleeping giant" where football is concerned. UNC would do well with a coach with the mind set of Bronco Mendenhall who is looking for a place to stay and not be the #1 program on campus. FB coaches are Prima Madonnas so finding this type of guy will be tough. UNC will likely follow the USC/Duke plan and hire older successful coaches with a name so they can keep up the momentum Mack has/will build

Re: Tar Heels recruiting
If they don't find a way to start winning we should seriously re-evaluate our future games. Likely to find ourselves in a no-win position where beating them is expected but a loss could hurt our NY6 or playoff potential. I mean, we really need to get ranked opponents for out OOC games.

they're already ranked in some preseason polls for this year, and they're talking up their QB as a Heisman candidate for 2021. They also play in weak division in a weak football conference. They'll be ranked for most of the foreseeable future.mike87 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 3:22 pmIf they don't find a way to start winning we should seriously re-evaluate our future games.
