UNCC football
Many, though not all, at Ninernation.net throwing Healy under the bus on his 2nd season with 49er football.
I think they were expecting more than 2-4 with their coach in year two.
It does put into perspective our 1st year head coach and where we are. Though our program history is vastly different I realize.

Re: UNCC football
Their fanbase expected that Healy would be undefeated this year (seriously, that's what a bunch of them expected). They have an extremely unrealistic view of their current place in the CFB world. They can't understand that they still have a long way to go, both from a coaching and talent POV, before they get to where they think they currently are.

Re: UNCC football
It isn't just their fans that like Healy. His name is mentioned regularly as an up and coming great coach regardless of his less than impressive record on the field. For whatever reason, a lot of media talking heads think the guy is a good one. I prefer to look at records and his record tells me that he isn't all that good.

Re: UNCC football
I think Healy is a good coach, but nobody is going to turn Charlotte around in two years. They have a few horses but nowhere near a full stable. Give him time and they'll be respectable in CUSA....probably not undefeated though.

I think about 20, but each 1 of those may have multiple personalities (looking directly at ghost of clt).Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 3:13 pmThey have fans?BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 2:37 pmTheir fanbase expected that Healy would be undefeated this year (seriously, that's what a bunch of them expected). Re: UNCC football
I don't keep up with UNCC hard to believe they were expecting an undefeated season.
I do realize with last years performance App expectations were to be undefeated especially after losing the P5 games. This wasn't to be, but it has shown that we also have a ways to go to get to the level we all expect and hope for. We have the same u realistic fans and more of them I am sure. I am one of them I suppose. I would like to see some coaching changes maybe not at the top but offense for sure. If not some big adjustments for next year. We'll see.
Back to Charlotte, they have a mountain to climb and 1,000 miles to go before they get to the point App is on history and overall performance.

Re: UNCC football
From what I’ve seen Healy has a lot of growing up to do. Seems many of these young coaches are taking the route of being friends with their players. This is a very short sited approach. Yes you need to treat the guys well and try to understand them and why they do the things they do. They need to know that their coach cares about them but as a coach what you really need in the end is respect. Having fun is a must but I think club lit and even some of the stuff going on in the locker room at Coastal is in the long run detrimental to those programs.

I can get on board with this line of thought. You don’t see Lord Saban jumping around in the locker room. Ultimately I don’t think you have to be a players coach in order to recruit talent. Just put the players in a position to succeed on the field, academically and in life and I believe that we’ll continue to attract the right type of talent we want in this program.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:08 pmFrom what I’ve seen Healy has a lot of growing up to do. Re: UNCC football
did you expect something different after remembering that the same fans who expected to go undefeated think the SEC is "keeping tabs" on them and the invite is coming any minute.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 1:34 pmMany, though not all, at Ninernation.net throwing Healy under the bus on his 2nd season with 49er football.

It does put into perspective our 1st year head coach and where we are. Though our program history is vastly different I realize.
to be honest it doesn't really put anything into perspective, UNCC is a lower tier G5 program and them having a losing record isn't detrimental to their program because its pretty much expected. Plus their whole AD is funded by student fees and they have 10k more students than we do.
we, on the other hand, are trying to get into the Boise State tier of G5 football, have a very narrow window to take advantage of the momentum built the past few seasons. Its understandable to take a step back after so much change, but if we can't return to form in the next year or two we risk being relegated to the Marshal level of G5 football.
Healy must be absolute sex at interviews. He got blown out by a mid tier mac team in a bowl game, has a losing record at UNCC who's in the 2nd worst conference but hes mentioned for every open P5 job. If all it takes is dancing around without your shirt on in front of a bunch of 18 year olds, i'm ready to throw my hat in the ring.
Next step for App is to solidify our mens bball program passing theirs with a win on Friday, we havea few years until the next football game.

Re: UNCC football
While I agree with you on 90% of your points, I would like to say we are way ahead of Boise State after 6 full years(7 to if you would like to include this year) in FBS.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:54 amdid you expect something different after remembering that the same fans who expected to go undefeated think the SEC is "keeping tabs" on them and the invite is coming any minute.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 1:34 pmMany, though not all, at Ninernation.net throwing Healy under the bus on his 2nd season with 49er football.

Boise: 39-31 55%winning percentage 2-0 in bowls, 4 coaching staffs.
App:61-17 78%winning percentage 5-0 bowl games, 3 coaching staffs.
So while I agree Boise is the model we are chasing and we have to keep the pedal to the metal, our trajectory is higher than theirs was. They have had seasonsuch like the one we are having, where they have succeeded is by not compounding them in back to back fashion. We are in great shape as a program, I hope some things get addressed in the off season but I would not trade places with any other G5 team(especially any in the state of NC).

Listen....some of us are close to throwing Shawn under the bus after 1 season with a winning record following 2 other coaching changes in a crazy season.............I'm not one of those and quite frankly dont give a rip about UNCC and their issues.

I truly worry about backlash next year. Has to be a challenge for our team given how much we should lose.

Re: UNCC football
And though I did not state that in the post, one of a few reasons, thought not the only reason, I did post this about one part of the Charlotte fan base is that I would prefer our fan base not go down that path and toss Shawn under the bus.
Another reason is that it is amazing how some of their fans went from thinking Healy was their Moses leading them to the Promised Land to being something a good bit less than that but still going to be gone to a P5 after this year. It is a bit of a knot of logic for some of their fanbase. Not all but some. (And we have some fans as any school does that does the same.)
