Napier Turns Down Auburn
Our coaches leave for lesser programs than Auburn. Billy turns top 10 jobs down.

Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
He still has lingering effects of "The Miracle on the Mountain"... In his mind, he is the logical choice to take over Bama when Saban retires.. Bahahaha
Or thinks he is first in line for LSU if another bad year in Baton Rouge... Bahahaha

Auburn is a tough job - you're always gonna be measured to Alabama, and you're likely to never be number one in the state. There's likely better jobs out there.

Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
I have no idea what Napier's end game is here. What job is he waiting for? Keeps turning down huge P5 opportunities. If he plans to stay long term in G5 at ULL then huge respect because we couldn't even get one of our own to stay.

In terms of fans, recruiting ability, facilities, prestige, etc, Auburn is easily top 10.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:29 pmAuburn is a tough job - you're always gonna be measured to Alabama, and you're likely to never be number one in the state. There's likely better jobs out there.

Thanks to Cam Newton and some...ahem...questionable recruiting...yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:31 pmIn terms of fans, recruiting ability, facilities, prestige, etc, Auburn is easily top 10.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:29 pmAuburn is a tough job - you're always gonna be measured to Alabama, and you're likely to never be number one in the state. I don't disagree with Auburn being a very good job in terms of all those factors. But they will never eclipse Alabama in that state.

Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
I really wonder what he is waiting for in a coaching destination. Auburn is about as good as it gets in college football. It has history, facilities, fans, financial support, best division in college football. Not sure what else he wants. I mean sure, they are constantly trying to keep up with BAMA but so is everyone else in the SEC and the rest of college football for that matter. If he won't leave for Auburn, who will he leave for? Maybe he is really happy at ULL and doesn't feel it is worth leaving, essentially the mindset we all want in a good coach. It is just so unusual at the G5 level that it is bewildering.
Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
I could not disagree more. A short term financial windfall possibility does not necessarily mean it was a bad decision to turn it down. It looks like to me that Napier might have been looking at the potential for long term employment too. Given his success at UL he could likely coach there until he wants to retire. Anyone elseremember Sparky?Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:31 pmSomebody obviously dropped him on his head when he was born, foolish financial decision.

This is not about money. Say his contract was 4 million for 5 years, it would take him 20 years to make that at ULL.AppAlum1 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:52 pmI could not disagree more. Alabama is the gold standard with Saban being the GOAT, in our remaining lifetimes we won't see any school top him in Nattys.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:37 pmThanks to Cam Newton and some...ahem...questionable recruiting...yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:31 pmIn terms of fans, recruiting ability, facilities, prestige, etc, Auburn is easily top 10.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:29 pmAuburn is a tough job - you're always gonna be measured to Alabama, and you're likely to never be number one in the state. Plus that Jimmy Sexton contract and buyout...Auburn is going to pay Gus $21M whether he gets another job or not...the iron is hot, he is a fool.yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:01 pmThis is not about money. Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
I agree with appinATL. Billy Nspier ain’t stupid. He has a better idea of his future more than anybody here. He is waiting for something he sees happening in his future and it ain’t Auburn. Give him credit for not jumping at the first big paycheck. He ain’t hurting anyway, he can wait.

Hey man, either it is or it isnt. You just said it isnt and argued that it was. Choose a side.yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:01 pmThis is not about money. Hang on, I'm calculating how many years it will take for me to earn $20M. I think my calculator is laughing at me.yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:01 pmThis is not about money. Re: Napier Turns Down Auburn
Was the job actually his for the taking? Only reason I ask is you tend to hear names being withdrawn just before the next coach is hired. Meaning they were given the chance to make it appear like it was their choice.
