This is delusional unless there are some off the field issues we don't know about. A WV guy (which is big to programs in that state) and was apparently willing to be there indefinitely (11 seasons and counting) which we know all to well is a rarity at the G5 level. He appeared to fix all of the culture problems and get Marsha back to their winning ways. Not sure what the university is going to get thats better than what they had.

I guess Marshall got tired of watching all the other G5 teams getting the limelight and someone thinks they can find a coach that will get them there. I know they finished the season very poorly and their young qb started playing more like a young qb but they were ranked in the top 25 for most of the season. Seems like an odd fire to me, but anything that is bad for Marshall is good for me so I am hoping they find even a worse coach to replace him. Down with the Herd.

Supposedly the governor of WV didn’t much like Holiday (he wasn’t supportive enough during the election-no, seriously), and has been trying to get Doc fired for several years. What a shit show.

Do we still have them at home next year? And their place the following year?

We should... unless something crazy happens with the AD. But I wouldnt think those would change.

Yes, this is what I'm hearing from a couple of friends in WV - Justice has done some good for WV,such as reestablishing The Greenbrier as a luxury resort, although he has numerous lawsuits against him for refusing to pay contractors, etc., remind you of anyone? He has no business getting good coaches fired for refusing to bow down to him

Haven’t been able to read the article yet but this already reeks of coach ruff firing at ECU and will probably be the same result a few years from now.

What are your Thoughts on getting Marsha OC/QB coach? Tim Cramsey. He makes around 180k as Marsha OC.

Don’t really know anything about him, but it was a little concerning when their young QB went off the rails, they were never able to get him back. Obviously not 100% on the coaches, but still a little concerning with the young QBs we have coming in.
Not sure if he is an actual candidate but I still love the idea of JMU’s OC/QB coach that AppSt94 mentioned. Seems like a good hire and we could pay him more than he currently makes (I think $140K). Might also help us extend our recruiting footprint into VA even more.
GO APPS!!
GO APPS!!

Not often a recent Coach of the Year gets fired.
Holliday tweeted Monday that university president Jerry Gilbert informed him that the school would not be extending his contract, which was set to expire at the end of June. He went 85-54 at Marshall (55-30 in league play) with a Conference USA title in 2014 and three division championships. This past season, he earned Conference USA Coach of the Year honors for the second time.

This is a Ruffin McNeill ECU situation all over again

Worth noting that he wasn't fired, but rather his contract ran out and they chose not to give him a new one. Doesn't change all the other dynamics in play, but it's a little different decision when you have to decide whether to commit to him for (presumably) several more years vs. letting him continue to fill out an existing contract and maybe re-evaluating next year.
Of course the fact that they let him get into the final year of his deal without extending it suggests someone had this in mind for a while.

He won one conference championship in 11 years. One. I hope we never have to find out if that’s unacceptable at Appalachian.

Sure, but you’ve got to admit it’s a weird year to let him go. They looked amazing until the end of November and then had an end-of-season slide. 7-0 and then 3 straight losses.
They went 3-9 in 2016. Seems like that would have been the time to can him.

Maybe, maybe not. Right now there is no buyout, since his contract was up. They did lose their last three games, and looking at how they played, there may have been something wrong inside the locker room that has yet to surface. I mean, they lost to RICE. I’m speculating, I’ll admit. There is no good way out. Do you renew him? No extension under four years promotes a vote of confidence, and then if next year is worse, you have a three-year buyout. In a way, the timing was pretty good from the university’s standpoint. Sometimes you have to cut bait. It’s that simple.

And this is exactly why coaches leave when they get the call to move up. There isn't any loyalty. A coach that's been there for 11 years, 3 division championships, 1 conference championship, 6-2 in bowl games, and a high graduation rate gets let go right after they are top 25 for majority of the season.
