Great move, Vols. Kid commits to you, rebuffs offers from other respectable schools AND is still all-in to wear the Orange...even though your program is a SMOKING RUIN.

And then you decide to dump him?

"Etheredge said it took him trying to get in touch with the Tennessee staff to get Taylor’s letter-of-intent for someone to finally contact him.

“I just told them that Tennessee is to never come on our campus wherever I am,” Etheredge said. “They’ve got no shot at any kid I will coach. They’ve offered (2022 DB) Tre’Quon Fegans. They’ve offered (2023 OL) Bradyn Joiner.

“It’s a black eye for them. However many games they play next year – whether it is 11 or 12 or however many – I’ll be wearing the opposite jersey. My loyalty is to my kids. I’m going to do everything I can to protect them.”

ouch.

I'm glad we have the program we have.

This is a perfect example of why all kids that are certain of their decisions should sign in the early signing period, it protects them from this type of horse###t.

He's probably better off elsewhere if he's not going to fit the new staff's system. Timing is terrible but better to know now than after he reports and enrolls in school. Same thing could happen anywhere with a coaching change so close to the signing period.

Most of the bad taste comes from the way they went about it. Zero communication until his coach is inquiring about submitting the players NLI. Yes they fired the previous coach in an awkward time in regards to NSD, again it's typical UT. Pruitt should have been fired as the clock hit zero against A&M, all of these allegations were known to the University long before they moved on it. It's unfortunate for young man, someone should have contacted him and let him know he should reopen his recruitment but I be willing to bet they wanted to keep him on the hook until they knew they had a replacement lined up. It's just another black eye for a once dominate program.

I saw that there were still issues regarding whether the kid would be eligible or not, despite what the coach said about him being "well on track to be eligible.

The player has already committed to Memphis.

I have seen UTs staff suggest that, but I've also known many P5 schools to include UT finesse the eligibility rules. Seems like an easy way to pin it on the kid and if it's not true that's a dirty ploy from them.

Exactly right and let’s be honest, It’s a pandemic year so all the “Eligibility” talk nonsense is just that. The kid would be going to UT if they wanted him. Admission would be no problem. Plus it’s not exactly like they are flush with talent And commits these days. But in predicable delusional UT fashion their fan base is already blaming the kid and pointing to he’s ‘only’ going to Memphis so how good was he anyway. Living in Knoxville I cannot stress enough how much I loathe this fanbase and by proxy football program.
