Spier and Elliott are good friends. I can see Spier doing to Ga. State, App, or Louisville in that order.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 3:11 pmThe right coach can make WCU successful. The right coach made Kansas State successful when they were the worst team in all FBS/I-A, the right coach turned around Rutgers, the right coach turned around Vanderbilt for a while and the right coach (Chadwell) turned around Charleston Southern when they were the worst scholarship team in all FCS.
Speir had WCU close on a couple occasions, but their penchant for scheduling 2-3 FBS paydays a season cost them a playoff bid even when they had a winning SoCon record.

At the end of the day, Western has won 6 games in the last 3 seasons and is 0-5 so far in 2020-21. Spier needs results soon, but he'll land on his feet somewhere if he doesn't.

Yes , Western is awful but I don't know they have the funds to pull the plug on Mark.Tre Lamb, and Taylor had a pretty good coming out party , Eloan was ranked 24 I believe.

I have to admit that I am really disappointed and surprised at how ineffective Speir has been at WCU. I really thought that he would get them on track but I think there is plenty of evidence to conclude that isn't going to happen.

I think they need to bring in a triple option scheme .Citadel makes it work , well most of the time , to make them competive , with less talent.

Watched a little bit of NDSU taking it on the chin vs SIU. The Bizun did not look good in the first half.

I'm not sure it's accurate to say the triple option works with "less" talent. Not meaning to split hairs, but I think the triple option (and the spread that we ran in FCS days) allow teams to succeed with DIFFERENT talent. Specifically, it de-emphasized size and put the emphasis on speed / athleticism.

Elon only got by Davidson by three the week before. I can't imagine they were 24 in the polls. Still good start for Taylor.

Discipline and repetition. The Citadel makes it work with less talent than most of the SOCON. They beat us with less talent across the field last time we were down there.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 11:30 amI'm not sure it's accurate to say the triple option works with "less" talent. ESPN likely pulled up some chart from years ago. This is ESPN and their attitude towards FCS.Stonewall wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:39 pmESPN+ had #24 beside their name Saturday.I did't check behind them.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:03 pmElon only got by Davidson by three the week before. Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread
I just received an email from Davidson College. They are in the FCS playoffs. First post-season game since 1969. They played in the Tangerine Bowl and lost to Toledo.
1969 was an amazing year for Davidson athletics.

And VMI is the SoCon champ. Their reward is a trip to Harrisonburg. Go Keydets!McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 4:49 pmI just received an email from Davidson College. They are in the FCS playoffs. First post-season game since 1969. They played in the Tangerine Bowl and lost to Toledo.

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread
I've actually watched a number of their games on ESPN+ this season. They run the air raid offense. Their QB was the preseason POY and was having a great season but was lost for the year about 2\3s in to the season but his back up has not missed a beat. JMU probably has too much talent for them and is ticked that they are the #3 seed after being #1 in the polls.

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread
Imagine being a Furman or Citadel fan and watching VMI win your conference. That has got to sting.

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread
Imagine being Western or Chattanooga fans and knowing you can’t sniff a championship in a league of small private schools 1/2 or even 1/4 your size.

Re: FCS Spring Season Megathread
VMI has been fun to watch this year. I tried to be a Citadel fan this spring but got tired of the 0-fer's and started tuning in to VMI. Hope they take it to the fumbling Dukes.
