Re: Roy Williams Retiring
Good for him. I'm not a UNC fan but he needed to retire for his health. He had no reason to hang on. No records to be broken. He made his money and created a 33 year legacy. I figure he will show back up in a year or so in a front office type of position.

There's another thread for that. This is news worth talking about, whether you like it or not. I'm not a Tar Heel fan but it is significant.

Local boy , rags to riches story. Worked his way up from the bottom to become one of the all time greats. I’ve never pulled for UNC but Roy Williams is now a legend. And a friend.

The trickle down effect this could cause will be very interesting to watch.

Agreed it's a massive domino that will affect a lot of programs.
Assuming that UNC doesn't promote Steve Robinson or Hubert Davis, etc up to the position, it'll be a highly coveted job.

Re: Roy Williams Retiring
Although great gesture by giving Guthridge an opportunity when Dean retired, I would rather see a long term solution. Davis or Wes Miller... With that said, I hope new coach keeos some of current assistants...

Re: Roy Williams Retiring
do we think this is a harbinger of yet another investigation? Or is Roy tired of having his employees attend class and play basketball?
Either way best of luck to him in retirement.

Let’s hope not. No telling how App and everyone else will be punished for their crimes...you know it’s the Carolina way.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 11:43 amdo we think this is a harbinger of yet another investigation? Re: Roy Williams Retiring
It pretty simple to me. The landscape of college sports, portal and money make it no longer fun for Roy. And he’s right. His style of developing players isn’t right for the 1 and done/transfer world. Roy is a good man.

Now watch the fanbase start wringing their hands and clutching their pearls over their hiring process. Should be fun.

Re: Roy Williams Retiring
This! Lol and thanks! I mean, we were actually chasing airplanes in 18 and 19!!! We might ask GASO fans how much fun it was to watch... but I highly doubt the UNC base looked twice. The little bro complex is clinically chronic on here... and embarrassing. Congrats Roy!
