"Gardner-Webb University announced on Friday that they will start competing this year with Campbell University with a little something extra on the line. The two football programs will battle it out for the North Carolina East/West BBQ Trophy. The first matchup will take place on Saturday, October 9.

Now, Gardner-Webb University is located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, which is in the western part of the state. On the other hand, Campbell University is located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. That is closer to the Atlantic coast. So, the two schools and regions have their own respective styles when it comes to BBQ.

According to the university, “the winner of the game each year will hoist and host the well-built, hefty trophy — topped with a decorative hog and adorned with a placard to engrave each year’s winning team and score.”

In addition, North Carolina BBQ expert Bob Garner will be on hand to present the trophy.
