Va Tech fires football head coach

Their board seems to think they'll go after Napier at Lousiana, but there is talk from The Athletic they may be also looking at Chadwell at Coastal, or Clawson at Wake Forest.
There is also talk that they are moving quickly because their guy may have another offer as well. If it's Napier, he may not be there to coach the Cajuns in the league championship game...a potentially huge thing for App.

Depends on how deep their pockets are. The Fuentes buyout is pretty big which makes you wonder if there is enough left over for Napier’s. Chadwell seems logical as well.

Is Clay Helton actually coaching the Stink now or just waiting in the wings until next season?

I believe that he is observing and evaluating while he puts together a staff.

They negotiated the buyout to 8.75 mill down from 10 mill.

Perhaps Chadwell gets the job and McCall goes with him.

The pockets in Blacksburg are deep. They will pay what they need to pay to get the guy they want. I think they already know who it is because they are paying $10 million to get rid of Fuentes now rather than waiting until sometime in December when the buyout goes down to $7.5 million.

I've read some talk that Chadwell is shopping himself and McCall as a package deal.

Wasn’t Fuentes overall record above .500? I get wanting to win, but some of the coaches that are getting $h!t-canned with winning records is crazy.

That could explain McCall's "injury."

I don't see Chadwell at Tech. I can see Napier though. I'm sure some Tech fans will think they can do better and have a wish list of some big name coaches.

His best years were the years immediately following Beamer.

I wonder what it's like to have to fire a football coach...

Buzz around Conway is that McCall is either hitting the portal and following Chadwell, if Chadwell gets a job, or he will declare early for the NFL Draft. A lot of fear down in Conway that because of the injury they may have seen the last of McCall in a CCU uniform.

They are definitely trending in the wrong direction, and football wasn't all that before Beamer retired. They've been mediocre at best for about 10 years.

Declare for the draft? This is comedy hour.

VT also has had over 40 transfers in the last couple of years - they don't really have an ACC quality QB - wouldn't Hooker be of some help???

Are you insinuating he wouldn’t get drafted? He’s easily a second day pick, especially with how light of a QB class this is.
