Your new FCS team

Reading the "SoCon adds 3" thread sparked my interest in whether or not some of you fellas have/will adopt an FCS to follow to keep in touch with the subdivision. I'm sure some have family connections to one or many, or perhaps some of you went to grad school ect at another SoCon or FCS school.

Personally, I'll be pulling for my NCCU Eagles since I'm starting work on a JD in Durham. I've always been fond of Montana as well just because they seem like a kindred spirit from the west coast.

Anyone else?

I don't think I'll pay much attention to 1-AA anymore after we leave, except for the playoffs. I am interested in seeing who in the SoCon fills the spots we and GSU usually took in the field. I think Wofford can pretty much guarantee annual trips, but who else?

I too would like to see Western return to some level of competency in the playoffs. I never really hated them, it always was more of I pitied them.

I'm not sure I'll have "a team" in FCS after we leave. There are teams that I wish good will (Montana), but I'm not going to check scores on Saturday night to see how they, or anyone else fared.

I'd like to see Seir succeed also, but not at Western. I hope tha program continues to suck for the remainder of the time humans walk the earth. Theyll have a better chance of winning a game or two a year once VMI, ETSU and Mercer all start playing in the conference, and that saddens me.

If he does not succeed at Western then he has probably already reached the pinnacle of his coaching career, except for his time at APP. You can't have it both ways. I am no Western fan but like someone else mentioned, I always pitied them more than I loathed them.

Anybody that plays FUrman or fElon. I probably won't have a team, but would like to see Montana and ETSU do well. I guess I'll have to pull for the Gee to win the SoCon in bball as my wife is an alum. :?

If I hear of one mentioned I'll check the score, not much else. It's not like I'll need a team in the FCS. Besides, one of the reasons I wanted APP to move up is because it's hard enough to find out anything about the FCS anyway unless there is a major upset.

I'll spend the time I spent following Sun Belt schools, which will include watching games on this thing they call TV, certainly a nice change of pace.

While we're talking about FCS, The Harvard Crimson recently published an interesting analysis of why schools in the Ivy League decline to play in the FCS playoffs. It's a good read, well-written and fair. Both the FCS and the Ivy League are missing opportunities for advancement.

My favorites:
2013 = Campbell, Chowan, NC Central, Presbyterian, Gardner Webb, UNC Pembroke, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Wesley College, Old Dominion, & Morehead State. UNCC schedule.

2014 = Wilkes Community College and any FCS team that may play UNCC.

Yea who cares about FCS now. We are so far past that now. I love the new fans on the message board.

These 'new' fans are mostly carry overs from the old MMB. And I have to agree with most of them - why care about a FCS team when we are no longer FCS? It will be irrelevant to us. The only reason any of us gave a crap about FCS football is because we were in FCS. Come 2014 I fully expect to not have an emotional investment in FCS football.

I'll wait until we're 100% out of FCS before rooting for any FCS teams.

There are, what, well over 1,000 colleges playing sports on some kind of level? If they all lose, and App wins, then I consider it a good weekend.

Great read. Reading between the lines, sounds like Harvard and Yale run the show. I mean really, football is the only sport that the "league" doesn't participate in postseason. Just plain silly imo.
