ECU extended his contract through 2017. Says new contract doubles his base to $400K. If I recall Satterfield base is $250K so I guess that is not off base for a new coach at FBS level. McNeill is 19-19 through three seasons at ECU.

I'm happy for Ruff, but also surprised. The ECU folks I talk to share the same sentiment. They like him as a person, but haven't seen enough success yet to warrant an extension going into the last year of his original contract. But, again...kudos to Ruff.

ECU fans I talk to don't like him. I think it would take a much better career record to satisfy them, as they usually have very unrealistic expectations. Most of them consider themselves on the same level as NC State.

I like the decision though, because it speaks to their commitment to long-term success. Speaking of State, now there's a school that has a new coach every two years because they demand a BCS bowl appearance every year. How do you fire Tom O'Brien? Who do you think you are?
