So you are allowed to be in portal and still play for the team you are leaving?

Up to the school. If I am coastal and if QB1 wants to play, I would play him. the second option is probably not at that talent level

Guess with head coach leaving there is more wiggle room as well.

If I had a dime for every time these loser ESPN commentators say the name Grayson McCall I would be a rich man. He is out of the game and they keep talking about him.

Isn’t the second option looking at jail time?

Coastal last three games

Lost 47-7 to JMU
Lost 45-26 to Troy
Lost 53-29 to ECU

No Chadwell and McCall next season. I think we’re seeing their future and I love it. Time to humble the sea chickens back to reality.

It’s also incredibly sad we lost to this team

McCall may have no choice but to stay though. Apparently there’s an academic issue.

Why not just go to the draft? There are some HORRIBLE nfl qbs right now and some 3rd, 4th string guys are starting. Injuries and bad nfl qb play. I’d be gone if I was him.

We have to get better before I can be happy that coastal is dropping back to the way they were.

Humble? We got out ass handed to us this year…I’d call that getting humbled.

You can't have it all- App being great, the Belt great and teams like CCU, Stink, Marshall and JMU terrible. I get the whole rivalries thing and the hatred for certain teams but don't we look better if those teams stay good and relevant?

I hate that we lose to anybody we play, but reality is our football goodness has been in reverse for a couple of seasons. the data is in black and white, arguments have been plentiful in agreement and disagreement. After the first half of the JMU game we were just awful. Everybody loved playing us this year. I'll bet we will be counted as a win by most of our '23 opponents before the season starts.

You are correct - what we heard (read on here) prior to the season was how tough the SBC has become with our division as extremely tough - we saw that up close and personal this season, and then had to read on here how we suck - The die has been cast, the SBC will not be a walk in the park again anytime soon - Too many established programs who have histories of winning - dealing with the Portal and everything else is going to make it a year to year process, don't see APP fans having any desire whatsoever for a build back to the top, developing players from the ground up. I am afraid that strategy is history. Win now or fire the coach!!! (not my personal feelings by the way)

You bring up an important point.

There are literally hundreds of ways a team can get better, but here are four specific areas involving game management that I hope coach Clark and his staff improve on:

1) End of first half offensive strategy. We’ve been way too conservative in this area. Sitting on the ball and running out the clock with a minute left and two time outs robs a team of a scoring chance. They’re too precious to squander.

2) Third-and-short strategy. We’re way too prone to run it up the middle. Sure, we have a good offensive line and we all would like to impose our will, but our batting average against mostly eight-man fronts has been one of the worst in FBS. Time to mix it up.

3) Fourth-and-short strategy. Every situation is different and Clark seems to be evolving/improving in this area, but going for it on fourth down on our half of the field (especially early in the game) is a losing strategy. Yup, we’ve all read studies that suggest otherwise. But they’re written by people who don’t understand the nuisances of football. It’s about risk and reward. We’ve got to get that figured out.

4) Player management. This is always a touchy issue because the coaches see our team in practice every day. We don’t. But from the outside looking in, it seems our staff is too reluctant to use reserve players in game competition. True, most of our games were close and didn’t lend themselves to unloading the bench. But we did have two uncompetitive games. McBride, Burger and Tabscott all should have seen more playing time. And who knows how things would have ended if Michael Hughes had been used more consistently? He had a great season kicking PATs, but never got much run for field goals after his miss in the season opener.

How did they collectively get better?

How did Marshall beat Notre Dame? - App beating A&M - GaSo beating Nebraska - ODU beating VT? Coastal would have most likely beaten UVA

Marshall, App, GaSo, and ODU used up their teams in those games. Coastal used up their team defeating those programs and had nothing left to win their bowl game.

The Sun Belt was vastly different during the first three weeks of the season than the conference that went 3-4 in bowl games.

Tailspins by App and Coastal played a big role.

How often do you see a solid G5 start the season with either some marquee win or they scare some big P5? It creates some great week 1 story then by November that P5 is 5-5 and that week 1 win or scare isn't so great. Also the G5's can't withstand injuries like a P5.
