Reports are that Gardner-Webb's Tre Lamb will be the new ETSU head coach.

He gets to open two straight seasons in Boone.
That doesn't really seem like a step up.
Big step up because he should double his salary by going there. Someone told me that Tre was upset that GW did not put in a bid to host a playoff game as well so that kind of fueled him to get out on top of the raise he is getting.
Money is the only step up.

I live close to Johnson City and ETSU football is an afterthought, at best. I don't think he's increasing his coaching profile any by moving from G-W to ETSU.

Will he bring that running back over with him?
The one getting drafted in the first round next year?
Did one of their fans say that or did we have someone say that? That kid did not even make the first-team All-Big South/OVC this year. He would be lucky to be a 7th round pick.
The first round pick was me being sarcastic, but there was mention of him being high on team's draft boards by someone on this board (One of ours) before the GW game. Searched high and low on Google for that, never found it, called him/her out on it, and never got a response.

Stepping stone job. If he turns the team around quick, he'll get noticed, and move up. I've heard from an GW alum, he was gone regardless, and this was the best offer he had.

Appstatenews claimed he would be the best back we’d face all year. Then he dug in after people suggested there were 3-4 better in the SBC. GA St and Troy’s RB are both top 10 rushers in the FBS this season and Gore and Ali are much better as well.

I think to most coaches the money is the step up that matters. I agree it definitely won’t increase his profile any more there than it will at GW. It is hard to consistently win at both schools as well it appears.

You never know and I don’t read everything. It wouldn’t shock me if someone said that a player like that could be. Fans hear that all 32 teams come on campus and they think NFL is drooling over be player. Lol

He is a solid player but I don’t think he was ever high on team draft boards. He wouldn’t even be top 10 in Sun Belt. We got 3 better than him, Carroll at Ga State, Vidal at Troy, Webb at USA, Ali at Marshall, Gore at Southern Miss, Mahdi at Texas State, and White at Ga Southern are all better for sure.

One of our assistants is on a short list of candidates for an SEC move based on some talk floating around ..."tis the season".
For the love of God, Frank better not leave again. Next year could be App's return to the playoff for the first time in 12 years.

I understand wanting money to live comfortably and take care of your family, but I'd be really disappointed in Ponce if he left again after only one year. He's getting over $300k a year and has a chance to have a really special team next year. Isn't there something to be said about achievement, place, pride, etc. over money?

I understand. $300K sounds like a lot of money, however, the life of a college coach can be difficult...got a job today....fired tomorrow... so, it can be a tough decision given the nature of the profession..if we could get our lead assistants up to $1 million a year, we would have less worries. Realize that is a pipe dream if $300K is correct...but it would help to keep people in Boone longer.

i'd hate it too. But understand that 6 weeks ago many on this board were calling to fire the whole coaching staff. The good news is they are under contract next season so if someone springs for him we'll be an extra X amount we can throw at a new coordinator.

I would hate it though because it probably lessens the chance of Aguilar sticking around and as mentioned we could be primed for a playoff appearance.

I think Joey is gone. Assuming he can go without sitting out a year. It is going to be the new reality. We are going to lose some. I hate the new rules. I do think it is the right rules for players. No one should be "locked" into something at that age.
