Re: ETSU fires football coach
Some of these coaches (Jimbo) just get paid way too much money for this job. Many of the salaries and contracts are just way out of control. It's hard for me to fathom making that kind of generalizational wealth. That being said do y'all think that some guys (maybe Clark) realize that what they are making is an incredible salary and are ecstatic to get it? I don't know exactly what a comfortable living is in the high country but I'd imagine that Clark and his family are living just fine. He seems to really love it here.

I know, last off-season someone got into a debate about ETSU paying more for basketball and Kerns might leave. Fast forward and their coach was hired at 30% less than Kerns.

Re: ETSU fires football coach
There’s a reason why some former coaches who get fired become part-time analysts. You get to stay around the game, ESPN or Fox gives you a little walking around money, and you get to play golf and fish from January to August.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 7:20 pmSome of these coaches (Jimbo) just get paid way too much money for this job. Reports are that Gardner-Webb's Tre Lamb will be the new ETSU head coach.
He gets to open two straight seasons in Boone.

It may be if he can win there...shows decent success at two schools...may get him a G5 offer.

It is a step up, the SoCon is still a much better conference than the Big South-OVC Association.

Re: ETSU fires football coach
Gardner Webb should be celebrated for “doing more with less”, but ETSU spends almost double what GW does on athletics. If ETSU gets the right pieces in place which is why they would bring in someone like Lamb, the resources are in place. GW is probably at its current ceiling.

One of our assistants is on a short list of candidates for an SEC move based on some talk floating around ..."tis the season".

Re: ETSU fires football coach
Big step up because he should double his salary by going there. Someone told me that Tre was upset that GW did not put in a bid to host a playoff game as well so that kind of fueled him to get out on top of the raise he is getting.

Re: ETSU fires football coach
Did one of their fans say that or did we have someone say that? That kid did not even make the first-team All-Big South/OVC this year. He would be lucky to be a 7th round pick./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 3:54 pmThe one getting drafted in the first round next year?

Re: ETSU fires football coach
I don't understand that one. May be a step in money, but not sure what it does for the resume. Seems like a coordinator role at FBS level would be a better play and connect him to a solid HC FBS role sooner. Unless it's simply a money move.
