Northwestern to Demolish and Replace Stadium

Some of my earliest memories growing up as a college football fan happened at the home of the Northwestern Wildcats, Ryan Field. To say those were good memories is a stretch as it often involved my team losing to one of the better Northwestern teams in the past 100 years.

Chicago’s Big Ten team is saying goodbye to their old home with plans to rebuild Ryan Field better than ever. However, they won’t be able to do that without demolishing the existing building. Construction crews are setting January 29th as the start date for demolition which will last approximately four months.

Demolition of Ryan Field begins on January 29th. It will take 4 months to take apart the stadium (no explosives). The start of the 2026 season remains the target date for the new Ryan Field. The new stadium will seat 35,000 fans & cost $800+ million,” College Campus Tour posted on X.
The rebuild will add several new features including permanent lights (which the current stadium does not have) while also reducing the seating capacity to one of the lowest in the Power Five, remaining the lowest in the conference.

At least they’re realistic with attendance expectations

Wonder how much tickets will cost after spending $800,000,000 on that few of seats?

Privately funded. So ticket prices won't have to go up.
