Wake Backs out of Playing Return Game to Ole Miss

Looks like Wake has developed a nasty habit of backing out of out of conference games that are either too competitive or when they are likely to get blown out again. First against us now against Ole Miss. Bad look for their program.

I'll take the $1.5M to go down to Ole Miss and put up a fight. But then again, no Joey next year.

I hope we get a game with Ole Miss....Kiffen could be gone and take a lot of players with him next year. A win against an SEC opponent and a BIG FAT paycheck sounds like a win win.

Interesting.

First, we hear the narrative where the ACC was telling member schools not to schedule G5 games going forward. And now, WF pulls this.

What’s happening behind the scenes here that we can’t see?

It would not surprise me to see Wake sign another big out of conference game with UNC.

The irony of non-conference games with conference opponents is ridiculous lol

They are pointless & defeatist...

It's so cowardly of the administrations of ACC schools in NC not to play Appalachian. Speak to the fans and they will tell you they want App on their schedule regularly.

Wake ducking on the return game to Ole Miss elicits eye rolling on my end. The ACC whines about not getting the same notoriety in playoff discussions as the SEC and Big Ten but turns around and avoids tough OOC games? Spare me.

Curious to find out why they cancelled. Curious who they replaced the game with.

To avoid another embarrassment, got scared. I would like to know who either team is playing. I'd take Wake or Ole Miss on our schedule.

While I don’t prescribe to the “they were scared” narrative, I could understand the thought had the game been cancelled after the game Saturday. According to reports, Wake called and cancelled it last week before Ole Miss ever boarded the bus to the airport.

I wouldn’t mind a game with either one but in doing so, we would be giving up another home game. Prior to the summer we had 3 home games and a game in Charlotte for our OOC schedule. We currently now have 1 home, 1 away, and 1 neutral.

When one gets a reputation of pulling out early it becomes hard to get a hook up in the future. Will hurt Wake’s ability to get a date with a decent willing partner.

That's what she said.
Sorry, had to.

I thought a good pull-out game would be a plus.

I would imagine the series was scheduled before Lane train arrived to Ole Miss -- I don't blame Wake one bit - Go beat up on the Sun Belt - CUSA Teams and get some wins.

Wake got the home game - made 2/3 million and said no way on the return, actually that is good business from their Admin.

Smart thinking you Demons!!!

Yeah and you think other P5 schools won't notice this action taken by Wake? "Good business" is understanding the ramifications of your decisions long term.

I didn’t realize Wake had shifted from Baptist to Catholic affiliation
