Some of Burger's App State buddies in the stands supporting him for the bowl. Nice to see. The turf is terrible on that field.

Miller Gibbs, Eli Wilson and a few others there in support of Burger. Very cool.

He’s thrown for 40 yards and rushed for 57 through early 3rd quarter

Maybe he would have thrown better screen passes to our fullback

Remember that Burger broke his middle finger on his throwing hand 6 plays into the 2023 season and was bleeding through his bandages while still playing. Then after Clark put in Aguilar and the game ended, Clark lied in the postgame and said it was purely a coach's decision based on skill and not on injury (Clark told the truth days later).

Liberty QB at the end of the game was Nate Hampton from Davie County High School in Mocksville, NC. Was offered by APP out of high school. Announcers said he is transferring to Gardner Webb next season.

So we offered a scholly to the 3rd string QB for Liberty who is leaving to drop down to FCS. Makes one wonder how good our talent scouts were over last few years.

Lack of talent assessment was the final wake up call for many in the fanbase.

That is such a critical piece of the puzzle given the margin of error in this current environment.

Having an NFL draft mentality could prove to be an asset. Time will tell.

Well, he was good enough for Liberty to offer and they have certainly outperformed us recently.

I doubt Liberty would have performed that well if they played in the Sun Belt East. However, I am glad that they are not a part of the Sun Belt. That game may have given Appalachian that sixth win this season.

The ASU coaching staff weren’t the only ones who saw potential in Nate Hampton. He was a 3 star Pro Style prospect coming out of high school who passed for over 3,300 yards and rushed for over 400 more. He was a Shrine Bowl selection and (in addition to App and Liberty) had more than 20 other offers including: Kentucky, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Marshall, ODU, Coastal Carolina, Western Kentucky, and others. He also had interest from NC State, UNC, Duke, Wake, and South Carolina.
