12 team playoff
It starts this weekend and I’m pulling hard for Dabo and Clemson. Until some reasonable rules are in place I think Dabo’s stance on the portal has been the best way to manage the current madness. If more coaches would follow his lead the situation would be much better. The university’s really have much more power over this whole situation than they are exercising. As another poster pointed out in another thread, the university’s have the brand. As the other poster pointed out if a semi pro team called the Western NC Elks played this weekend in KBS the place would be pretty much empty. The fans come to see the App State Mountaineers and the Clemson Tigers.

Boise is on the schedule next year and taking down the defending National Champ would be a quality win.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 1:30 pmGroup Conference team all the way. Let's go Boise St.!!

Re: 12 team playoff
I’m pulling for the DAWGS since I’m in grad school there now. Boise St. is my secondary pick.
Praying for Ohio State and Clemson to lose. I’m rooting against Clemson for all the same reasons mjohn is rooting for them.

Dislike index increasing order:
Boise St.
Penn St
Arizona St
Oregon
SMU
UGA (the new Bama)
Texas (Longhorn network's impact on CFB)
Indiana (Cig)
UTk (Rocky Top)
Clemson (Dabo)
ND (special treatment)
Ohio St (fanbase that didn't go there that live in CLT)

Re: 12 team playoff
I think that the collective group of 5 schools really needs Boise to win a game or at least be competitive because if they get whipped we could see a change in the selection format to eliminate the bye for the top 4 conference champs as well as simply picking the top 12 rated teams. The process used this year was probably on time gift to the minor league teams.

I agree, Boise St. and AZ St. getting byes is going to piss off the real powers, SEC and Big10. The ACC and Big12 are pretend powers going forward and will do whatever the P2 mandate.

Probably
Notre dame can get blown out by 50 points for the next 20 years and they’ll get benefit of the doubt, but the 1st time a g6 school gets blown out it’ll be “evidence” we don’t belong

Re: 12 team playoff
The auto top 4 seeds for winning your conference was about as dumb of a rule as I've ever seen. You just knew we were going to end up with a borderline top 25 team snagging a 3 or 4 seed (and a 12 seed in this case). Hoping they change that rule going forward and just re-rank the top 12 teams. If you win your p4 conference, you get a seat in the top 12, but not the top 4. Also, the 1 seed has a tougher slate than the 5 seed even though the 1 seed just beat the 5 seed. It's all screwed up haha.

Re: 12 team playoff
No truer words have ever been written on this message board. Heck, Notre Dame could go 0-12 and they would still be one of the top teams in the country, because they have so much talent. A lot of people would like to see Indiana stick it to them.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 9:29 amBigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:57 amI think that the collective group of 5 schools really needs Boise to win a game or at least be competitive because if they get whipped we could see a change in the selection format to eliminate the bye for the top 4 conference champs as well as simply picking the top 12 rated teams. Re: 12 team playoff
Yep and once it’s changed (not if) a G5 will almost certainly have to schedule at least 2 P4’s (good luck AD’s as there will be zero incentive for P4’s to play good G5’s) and beat those teams and most likely have to go undefeated or 12-1 at least. Zero chance a 10-2 Sunbelt champ gets in.

I think he knows he can’t compete with the big dogs doing it the “old school” way. He’s taken 2 portal kids already! Times are changing, even Dabo is portaling. Wonder if he’s paying NIL since he was so adamately against it.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 1:28 pmIt starts this weekend and I’m pulling hard for Dabo and Clemson. Re: 12 team playoff
Winning the conference championship should get a nice bump in the rankings as it should count more. Giving Boise State & the (other) ASU a bye is crazy but love it. I am not sure how they don’t expand the playoff to 16 teams with SEC teams being left out from a competitive conference. I hope they don’t go to a certain number of bids per conference though.

To stabilize the conferences, every conference champion should get an automatic bid.AppState00_01 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 6:26 pmWinning the conference championship should get a nice bump in the rankings as it should count more. Yes, it has been a down year for App St football. A silver lining. Stink lost to a team qualifying for its first ever bowl appearance. At least I have that consolation Christmas present

It went bad for the Eagles on the very first play. Sam Houston did win an FCS Championship in '21.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 5:49 amYes, it has been a down year for App St football. Re: 12 team playoff
What I saw Dabo talk about was that he wanted to recruit and develop players out of high school, team building. There have always been transfers but I like his focus on player development and wish him success. As for NIL, no coach or anyone else at a university should really be involved with NIL. Pretty sure it would be a violation of the current rules for Dabo to pay NIL. That said it would be next to impossible to think Clemson would still have a team without a bunch of NIL money going to players.311neers wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 4:59 pmI think he knows he can’t compete with the big dogs doing it the “old school” way.
