We see how much of a hill to climb with Boise playing at 5:30 today.

ECU and NCSU at 7pm

ULM at 7

Elon vs Dook 7:30

And plenty of others tonight

5:30 on a Thursday is an odd kickoff time.

Is it a requirement to have the mouthpiece attached to the helmet for college football. All the skill players, including QB, for NC State has the mouthpiece just dangling...so serving no purpose... definitely not a fashion statement πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Pirates caught the PACK napping on that TD pass.

Pirates have had multiple critical penalties. They have to feel good about a 10 point game right now.

I think it is a rather foolish decision to not use a mouthpiece while playing football, but I guess some think it makes the cooler or tougher to not use one?

Agreed. I googled after my post. Apparently it is a requirement to have attached to helmet. However, I guess the rule does not require said mouthpiece to be in a player's actual mouth.

The army loss is surprising.

Wake squeaks by 10-9 to Kennesaw St.

This question might be better suited as a completely different topic but I’m curious what people think. Considering the current landscape of college football what is the biggest surprise-gap: a good FCS team beating a decent G5 (Tarleton over Army) a good G5 beating a decent P4 (example being say App beating an NC State if we win played) or a really good G5 beating an upper tier P4 (not sure who currently applies on the G5 side but I’ll go App beating an LSU theoretically)? I believe the gap between really good FCS and decent/good G5 has always been thin. Not much difference in good/really good G5 and average P4 as those conferences always have crappy teams near the bottom. The gap between good G5 and upper tier P4 is widening annually with the money and portal obviously so those G5 wins will be deemed as shocking upsets, more so than maybe 5 to 10 years ago. Those opportunities will probably be fewer with power schools moving to 9 conference games. No way the big boys will want to schedule a fringe G5/P4 program.

Even though NCSU beat the Pirates on Thursday, that game was painful to watch.

While it’s too early to gauge how good the Pack’s defense will be this year, Doeren has few reasons to be optimistic about his offense. A very average Pirate defense successfully bottled up Smothers for most of the night. And with Concepcion departing for A&M, the WR cupboard is looking bare. It could be a long season for the Pack, and any missteps or setbacks will be greatly amplified if Belichick and the Heels have success.

Southern Miss is very much improved. They started out a little slow but have adjusted and are currently controlling the game.

Marshall 2.0. the one thing I noticed about Southern Miss is that their stadium looks like a copy of ours. Their colors....naming of the stadium as the rock....the home side seats.... I haven't been impressed with either of these teams in this game.

Marshall Southern is going to be a good road test.
