I’m starting to rethink my retirement plan. Becoming a HFC seems pretty lucrative. Especially if you aren’t good enough to keep your job.

Kelly basically killed a guy and then impersonated a southern, he is one of the most hateable coaches in the history of CFB. It's a shame he gets a buyout.

"Most hateable".......Blames everybody else, visibly yelling at coaches and players during games, always has a fall guy as a shield.

I have a kid and two step grandkids that went to LSU, more stories are starting to leak out about how unlikeable this guy was. It will be interesting to see what they let leak out.

So far;
He was disengaged to the point he was on a beach during recruiting/signing seasons and did little recruiting at all.
Dismissed a lot of local long time football staff including the strength coach Tommy Moffitt after 21 years. Tommy was loved in Baton Rouge and is now at A&M. LSU has been pushed around by everybody since he left.
Alienated the high school football coaches in the state. As a result a lot of in state talent went elsewhere.

There's more but I'm tired of typing.

The story about then-Central Michigan HFC Brian Kelly inviting grad assistants over to a holiday party then having them shovel snow and be valets to others shows his character. Those grad assistants were Robert Saleh and the current Packers coach.

It isn’t a profound statement but you know lots of these dudes with stupid massive contracts and equally stupid buyouts have to quickly reach a point where they could care less about the program and welcome the buyout. How stupid are the folks at LSU? This is the second coach in what, less than 10 years to get a massive buyout? With the portal and paying players is it really that critical to overpay for a ball coach now? I compare these guys to NBA head coaches. Apparently they are extremely expendable.

Same guy is responsible for both massive buyouts. Woodward the current AD at LSU. Word is he is on his way out too.

1. I dont' see the "Big Buyout" being a thing into the future.
2. Who do these programs think they are going to get?
3. How are they going to pay for players, coaches and former coaches going forward?
4. Whats the incentive for a coach to take a job at a place like LSU, PSU?...Clearly all the money in the world can't buy success

Money does not guarantee success indeed but we even have some fans on here who think we have to double our budget to contend in the Sun Belt.

I am with you on the coach buyouts. I think colleges need to remove these massive buyouts. Boosters need to tell these schools no to this stuff. You can't expect fans to fund current coaches and players along with fired coaches as well.

In addition to these ridiculous salaries and buyouts, LSU spent $18 million dollars on their roster this year. It’s crazy. My passion for the game diminishes each year.

Wait until this gambling thing hits college. Rumors are that a lot of refs, players, and coaches are going to be involved so basically we are paying all this money and even wagering on games who have participants fixing them or shaving points. I use to talk to our players and really engage but now I don't. It is just entertainment for me and I don't get upset by losses anymore.

There was boatloads of evidence that Kelly was super unlikable before LSU hired him.

Unfortunately colleges have decided that Ws are sacrosanct. That’s not just an indictment on LSU although they are as guilty as anybody.
We aren’t immune to that either

Massive longer term contracts with huge buyouts are becoming the norm. It's the buy in cost at high profile schools now. In part due to what I call the Jimmy Sexton effect. A small group of agents control the majority of football coaches. They have done an exceptional job of increasing the perceived value of head coaches and they control the marketplace.

I would like to see base contracts no longer than 4-5 years. Build in options and incentives tied to number of wins, conference championships, playoff appearances, huge bonus for national championships, graduation rates, etc.

They are now talking $15 million a year moving forward at the top P4 schools. Crazy.
Imagine having a job that pays 10 million a year win or lose and if you get fired for losing, you get that 10 mil a year for the rest of a ten year term. For most coaches the incentive to win has to disappear.
