Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
After week 3, I'm thinking this whole "meaningless season" thing might be bad juju. People showed concern before the season and I'll admit I scoffed at the idea, but it's looking more and more like the coaches and players of our squad as well as GaSo's apparently are not as focused without the prospect of an official ring or postseason.

Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
I think I'm going to hold off on making that call until I see how we respond to the A&T loss. Even if some really feel that way the loss to a MEAC team, no matter how good they might turn out to be (our game wasn't like the Elon game today or even the Central game at Charlotte, take away the pick 6 and the KR and they have 10 points, unlike today where yards were gained), was still embarrassing and from what I've been reading on twitter many of the players aren't happy to be hearing it from others.Gonzo wrote:After week 3, I'm thinking this whole "meaningless season" thing might be bad juju. I have read so many comments, especially on MI, about the number of starters we've returned, even though pointing out that the two deep is really where our youth shows up doesn't matter to them. If our seniors and juniors are truly buying into this "meaningless season" line then I would hope that some of our 78 freshmen and sophomores would use the opportunity to bust their way into playing time.
One side note. As many on here saw I posted the twitter post from Ian Barnard about what's he's playing for this season. He's cleared to play now. Let's see if he brings some fire to the O-Line next week.

So are you saying I might have been right???Gonzo wrote:After week 3, I'm thinking this whole "meaningless season" thing might be bad juju. Whoa... Mind blown!
One game does not a postseason make.

Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
on the GS message board, they are ripping the team for being flat, giving an uninspired performance, and in general playing like they just didn't give a dam...sound familiar.

Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
I posted earlier on the CSNBBS.com that I really think the FCS transitional year is a total waste. That year should be used for future recruiting, facilities improvement and generall planning, but the scholarships shouldn't be added until the year when the team started playing an FBS schedule and the team should be eligible for championships and post season while they remain in the FCS.
Honestly, I don't understand why there is a post season prohibition once a team moves to FBS either but maybe there is something I'm missing. It just doesn't make sense to me that a team that is clearly NOT at an advantage would be excluded.
I'm having to question the "meaningless season" impact on motivation. I really hope that isn't a problem, but it remains to be seen how the teams (App and GaSo) respond now. I'm still optimistic that we could step up and have a good season.

Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
I admit to being shocked that Wofford beat GaSo. My take is:
1. Once again Ayers prove he is one hell of a coach.
2. There must be something to the mental aspects of playing for nothing other than pride.
3. Turnovers are the great equalizer.
4. Wofford can still play defense without Woody.
5. Looks like UTC, Wofford and Sammy in a battle for the SoCon.

Re: Wofford-Ga Southern
If I'm Scott, my motivation to the team is that now we can be the transitional team that runs through the SoCon on a "Farewell Tour" to show just how ready for primetime we are. I know that this may not motivate many of the seniors, but at least it's something other than pride.
I still maintain that the A&T loss was on the coach(es). An experienced coach probably would have won that game for us (as one did for A&T). We will deal with those growing pains, but not all hope is lost. Our focus should be the same as it always has been, "win" the SoCon!

Right now I think the only thing SS should focus on is winning the next game at Elon. Screw the "farewell tour" for the time being, lets just see if we have enough moxie to win a game. Take it one game at a time, the other approach hasn't worked too well so far.ASUMountaineer wrote:If I'm Scott, my motivation to the team is that now we can be the transitional team that runs through the SoCon on a "Farewell Tour" to show just how ready for primetime we are.
