The two teams are scheduled to play for the CIAA championship tomorrow but WSSU QB now expected not to be able to play.
Rudy Johnson, Winston-Salem State University’s starting quarterback, was beaten up by five Virginia State football players during the CIAA football banquet Friday afternoon, according to multiple sources.
Sounds like a bad sports movie...

Awful. I was in that same building today. Saw them setting up the signs for the banquet. I'm guessing VSU is going to have to forfeit this game.

Former App John Rizor is finishing out his college career at WSSU this year. I saw a couple of tweets about him yesterday but was covered up and didn't get a chance to post them.

WSSU should be in the DII playoffs. Was he not going to be able to play in the playoffs.
Forfeit from Va St or a no contest - the last statement on the TV was not sure how it would be ruled and how it would effect seeding for WSSU in the playoffs.

"Looks like this was going to be his last game"
why, does this make them ineligible for the playoffs? Last year they were in the D II national championship game.

They will be in the playoffs. Their website made no mention of it and I didn't see it elsewhere until after I posted. I've corrected my previous post.
They are 9-1 and ranked #1 in the HBCU Sheridan poll. Don't know how it will affect the seedings but I would expect them to be fine.
Sorry guys. I was right in the middle of a dozen things and I forgot about the D-II playoffs.

There was an article earlier this week about how impactful his play has been this year for the D.

They also cancelled the VB championship so they must expect more trouble.

VB was free admission, so that would have become an easy place to get a crowd for anyone wanting trouble just to make trouble. And I thing VaSt and WSSU were also playing each other in VB. But go on without specators.
I don't know how you could handle the FB game in a fair manner without making the VaSt starting QB sit so what the CIAA did makes sense and is to be expected. And at that point it is not about fairness, but doing what is right. I hope VaSt is charged with a forfeit, so on paper many years from now, the records show WSSU with a championship. I doubt their are many rules set up for situations like this. The VB should have gone ahead and just been held without spectators. VB is not a contact sport, unless one side rushes the other side. I feel bad for the women's side being punished over the acts of a very few. And with free admission to the VB it is not like the CIAA is losing money from banning spectators.

I meant to say their game not the championship

@johndellWSJ: Va. State ruled ineligible for D-II playoffs by the CIAA and it's board of directors (college presidents and chancellors).

Good. I wish the Rams well and hope they get to play in the playoffs.

The young men involved with this, chronologically
beat some one up to the point of needing hospital care
stopped the CIAA FB game
stopped the CIAA VB tourney
did damage to the W-S community economically by having the previous two events cancelled
kept their team out of the playoffs.
I wonder if they are punished?
