This is something I think everyone kind of knows goes on but its nice to see a news report about something that I feel is a pretty big issue. The Student has been taken out of Student-Athlete. Even here at App we've had a number of athletes in similar situations.

Lots of good stats in this article though, good read.

That report is comparable to me putting my seatbelt on after I have been pulled over. They are showing 2012-2013 data. Why did they not try to dispute the 8 year data CNN showed.

What a joke. They'd honestly be better off not responding at all. The whole PJ thing ended WEEKS ago. UNC was way overdue for a scandal.

The University of Non Compliance.

Maybe you should take your own advice...

No one is saying this doesn't go on. They have every right to dispute what one person said about their university. Surely you don't mind them speaking their mind when you jump at every chance to speak yours...

That's rich, Tar Hole fan boy. It wouldn't be a UNC scandal thread with out you jumping to their defense.

What's their/your excuse for the countless other examples of UNC academic fraud? Like I said, such a futile response like the one the school released to WRAL does more to further the school's hopeless reputation than it does to absolve them.

But I'm sure you ate it up.

It has been a watershed year for the Holes.

Not sure I jumped to their defense. In fact I think I just said this stuff does go on. All of it needs cleaning up.

Better check ya blood pressure. Getting kinda high.

The BOG report seems to skirt around the issues and problems associated with athletes admitted at the lower end of the scale, who are off the chart in terms of being anywhere close to the institutional profile. NCAA minimum guidelines are just that, minimum guidelines and should not be used for certain schools, such as UNC, or even ASU. As an example, the minimum SAT standard is 800, assuming a high school GPA of slightly over 2.5. This is about 500 points lower than the student average of 1300 at UNC and about 350 points lower than ASU's average of approximately 1150. Those of us who took the SAT pre-1995 may recall that SAT scores were recalibrated in 1995. The College Board's SAT score conversion tool indicates that today's 800 score equates to 320 verbal, 350 math, and 670 total for pre-1995 scores. Back in the day, athletes at this level of SAT score would most likely have had to go the route of prep school or JUCO prior to enrolling at a four year school, especially in the ACC. Many of us recall that the ACC used to have what was called "the 800 rule" for minimum SAT scores for ACC athletes. This equates to a score of 920 by today's standards. A "920 rule" sounds good to me. Maybe this would help keep some schools out of trouble.

You basically posted the UNC PR response. And my blood pressure is fine. I'm always jolly when I hear the latest from Chapel Hill -- a constant stream of validation of my feelings towards the University of Non Compliance.

Yep, it's as predictable as Culloweewee losing another football game. Somebody posts the latest news on the UNCheaters, and the usual asshats pop up to defend them. I guess that's "the carolina way."

Which ya like better?
A UNC loss or an ASU win.

I'd say in your case it's a UNC loss. Make ya feel warm and fuzzy.

Yep. UNC deserves to get what's coming to them. I have no problems with it at all.
I guess it's the "no equal" way...

I thought this was the "Other Schools Athletics" forum? Hummm. Maybe I misread it. My bad.
Ya'll check ya blood pressure.

I just saw a piece on this on CNN national news and it doesn't look good for unc - the lady actually showed an official university letter giving her authorization to conduct this survey and the understanding I had was that all information she used was university info - not her info ---

Really? Haven't seen that yet. Like I've said. If they broke the rules they need the hammer laid down on them. It's just fun watching the UNC haters become giddy when these things pop up. It's really entertainment watching this board during it.

My only problem is that this is happening pretty much across the board at schools and you are at the mercy of the media about what's being said and printed.

No. It's really not. Not that "all the other kids are doing it" would hold up in court anyway.

Yes. It really does.
Read the article and get back to me.
Some schools refused to give their data out. Wonder why?
PS... Don't let the facts get in your way to poke fun at other universities too.

The scale and frequency of academic fraud at UNC Chapel Hill is unprecedented. Youread the article. Read this one too while you're at it.

If your reading level is higher than a UNC athlete that is. Otherwise it might be a difficult.

We're talking about the school that made up fake classes for DECADES in the biggest academic fraud scandal in NCAA history. No sir, Mr.AppGrad1. You Heels are not just the only one that "got caught."

You said UNC was the only one doing it. I proved you wrong by linking the article.
You now are going into specifics. Can't stand it can you? lol

Might want to take your own advice and "Best not to respond at all" approach.

PS. Absolutely love it when you are proven wrong then you go to personal attacks.
I graduated from ASU and now you are questioning my reading level? That would make ASU look bad if that's the case correct? Sure would hate for ASU to have given me a diploma KNOWING I can't read.
That's kinda what UNC did right?
Bring it on. What ya got next?

Proven wrong? What UNC has done -- sham courses, under-the-table payments, changing grades, forging signatures, and maintaining teams full of dim wits for DECADES -- has never been done before. Other schools have isolated incidents, perhaps one or two of UNC's laundry list of violations, but no other has done so in way that would rival the scale and frequency of UNC Chapel Hill.

Take off the baby blue glasses and look at the gravity of the situation your Holes are in. There are many Universities in this country with bigger names than UNC. UNC is being singled out REPEATEDLY by national news organizations for one reason: what they're doing and what they've done for as long as they've done it is shocking and newsworthy.

The only thing you've proven is that some Tar Hole fans are still delusional enough to think every major school does the same thing and that UNC is getting "picked on." It's like comparing a petty thief to a serial rapist.

------------------------------------------------------------

Did you know for sure what was happening to UNC before the media spilled the beans about them?
The answer to that question is NO.

How have you gained knowledge that other major universities have not done some of these things or all of these things? Are you all knowing?

Wanna bet many of these universities have been in numerous staff meetings making sure their programs are cleaner now? Na, they were already clean and have nothing to hide right?
I've said already, put the hammer down on UNC. No problem.
You saying UNC is the only one (that's what you said until you changed it to everything they have done) is what's comical.
