I've seen conflicting reports on this one. One said there's mutual interest, another said Marshall has contacted him but it's "highly unlikely" he'd take the job.

He'd certainly take a salary beating. I know what the Herd was paying Herrion. Under $300,000.

Murry Bartow, head men’s basketball coach at East Tennessee State University, is now said to be in the mix for the Marshall head men's basketball coaching job. At ETSU, Bartow has posted the school’s best winning percentage by a coach with five or more years of service, winning 58 percent of his games (189-135). He has won 282 games in his career and made appearances in eight postseason tournaments as a Division I coach – including the NCAA Tournament in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2010.

As I posted last week; it was a no-brainer that Kelvin Sampson would get a new, shiny collegiate gig w/o having to pack and move across the country. Just drive his Benz across town...

Robert Morris University head men's basketball coach Andrew Toole is up for the Marshall head men's basketball coaching job. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. During Toole's six season at Robert Morris University, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the championship in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

Ohio head men's basketball coach Jim Christian is leaving the program to become the head coach at Boston College after just two seasons in Athens, the Athens Messenger's Jason Arkley reported. Christian, who replaced John Groce in 2012, will be replacing Steve Donahue who was fired after an 8-24 season with the Eagles.

Any idea what Ohio U. pays their BB coach.

I'd like to think we are somewhat comparable to them....facilities similar in all sports....same obstacles as for location other "big city" teams in state.....etc. Similar "rabid" (when they win) fans but spread out over a 3 state area.

Ohio men’s coach Jim Christian is said to be a serious candidate to succeed the fired Steve Donahue as Boston College’s coach.

A source told The Dispatch that Boston College approached Christian about the opening last week. He reportedly met a representative from the university over the weekend.

Christian told The Athens Messenger that he would not comment on any job opening.

A possible sign that Christian could be leaving came from Ohio recruit Tariq Owens, a 6-foot-9 forward from Mt. Zion Preparatory School in Laurel, Md. He told Evan Daniels of Scout.com yesterday that he was going to ask to be released from his letter of intent.

Two years ago, Christian signed a five-year contract that pays $425,000.

There is a $500,000 buyout if he accepts another job before May 1.

Athletic director Jim Schaus considered it a coup to hire Christian away from Texas Christian because of his experience in the Mid-American Conference. He led Kent State to six straight 20-victory seasons, including conference championships and NCAA appearances in 2006 and ’08, before going to TCU.

Last season, the Bobcats were 24-10 and lost in the first round of the NIT. This season, they were 25-12 and won two games in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

Martin is laughing all the way to California, during this BB season, while his team was finishing 3rd in the SEC, and preparing for the NCAA tournament, there was a petition signed by over 300,000 Tenn fans, demanding Martin is fired and Bruce Pearl is brought back as HC. Now look at them, Pearl is coaching at Auburn, Martin has left, and to pour salt in the wound, Tenn top recruit, a 7 ft. center, has decommitted and is following Martin to California, Karma is a b@#@%.

Marshall rolling the dice; hoping for D'Antoni

After interviewing close to half of all working D-I head coaches for its vacant HC position  , Marshall is rolling the dice hoping to hire former herd star Mike D'Antoni after the LA Lakers' NBA season ends. The Lakers (26-55) play their last game of the season tonight. After a horrid season and after losing 8 of their last 10 games, D-Antoni is a sure bet to be fired. The question is whether Marshall is willing to make him C-USA's highest paid coach. He's certainly not going to work for what The Herd paid Tommy Herrion last season--about $265,000.

It's a big gamble, because MU needs talent; and most players once available to The Herd are already taken. This really is breakin' my heart; for MU to struggle, that is.

Marshall is taking their time replacing Tom Herrion. It is believed the school's AD is waiting for the LA Lakers season to end. The Lakers will likely fire Mike D’Antoni. D'Antoni is believed to be at the top of Marshall's wish list. Either way, something should be finalized within a week.

And we thought we had trouble hiring a coach! Well, poor Marshall. No one wants to move to Huntington.

• Now that Mike D’Antoni and Brad Underwood have said no to Marshall, Eastern Kentucky’s Jeff Neubauer will be the next “hot” name here. Neubauer has actually been a target since the start of the search, but now that Marshall has swung and missed with some bigger names, it looks like they will zero in on Neubauer. We first mentioned Neubauer and Marshall on 4/8 (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/997c79eb/marshall-dirt/…), and believe this could get done quickly now.

Marshall has offered at least ten guys their HC job; all declined or had their demands for salary and budgets nixed bu MU's pres. and AD. Plan K is next! No surprises here for us. Big blow to MU and Herd Fan pride.

Marshall offered Neubauer from EKU; he also declined. So, emerges Plan L...to keep in the "family" so to speak. BTW, both D'Antoni brothers played at MU. Dan actually coached Mike there once upon a time.

67 years old, grand total of one year college coaching experience (as an assistant in 1970-71), spent most of his career coaching SC high school ball before spending the last decade following his younger brother around the NBA. Home run hire!

Word is that Dan is a place holder for brother Mike. Mike was expected to get fired, pocket a $4 million check, and go to Marshall, but the Lakers are keeping him. Mike will head to Marshall soon to finish out his career. Who knows if this is true.
