TROY, Ala. – Troy and North Carolina State have signed a home-and-home football agreement for games in 2015 and 2017, Troy Athletics Director John Hartwell announced Monday.

Troy will open the 2015 season at NC State in Carter-Finley Stadium on Sept. 5, while the Wolfpack will make the return trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sept. 23, 2017. Covering the 2013 through 2017 seasons, Troy has signed home-and-home agreements with Duke, Boise State and now North Carolina State.

"Anytime we can get an AQ opponent to come to Troy, and to do so in a home-and-home series, it's a tremendous get for us," Hartwell said. "It will be an opportunity to showcase not just our football program, but also our facilities, our University and the city of Troy. We're not scheduling to just say that we played them; it's one that we think we have a legitimate shot of not only competing, but also winning one or both of those games.

"This also makes it easier for future scheduling as we can tell other schools that Mississippi State, Navy, Duke, NC State and Boise State have all been in here in a seven-year window."

The series with NC State adds to the impressive list of teams who have played or will play in Veterans Memorial Stadium in recent history. Troy has victories over Missouri (2004), Oklahoma State (2007) and Navy (2012) in Veterans Memorial Stadium, while Mississippi State became the first SEC opponent to visit Troy when the Bulldogs made the trip in 2012. Duke will become the first ACC school to make the trip this upcoming season and Boise State will open the 2018 season in Troy.

At KBS, where would you put the thousands of State fans who would want to attend? To accommodate such a crowd now, we would likely have to displace folks.

If NC State came to Boone, how many tickets would we need to guarantee them? I don't think they would agree to come to Boone if we said we can accommodate you by putting your fans on the hill. BCS teams that come to Boone would expect us to provide them with more tickets than previous visitors to KBS have been given. My point is we would have to block off sections of the stadium for visitor seating that currently is used by App fans. We currently designate certain sections for visitors. An NC State or ECU would likely demand more. I'm not sure we could comfortably accommodate them at the moment. It's not a question of fitting 30,000 fans in KBS, its accommodating the additional fans from teams that travel better SoCon teams.

To attract a Wake, NC State or and ECU we are going to have to add actual seats. Troy's original stadium was identical to old Conrad when it sat 10,000, complete with track. What they have done to that place since 2003 is amazing. We could learn a lot from them.

To attract a Wake, NC State or and ECU we are going to have to add actual seats. Troy's original stadium was identical to old Conrad when it sat 10,000, complete with track. What they have done to that place since 2003 is amazing. We could learn a lot from them.

Why can't we add temp bleachers (for now) in the scoreboard endzone similar to or larger than the ones at the fieldhouse endzone (could be student seating like the others which would free up stadium seats) and that would still leave some space on the top areas of the bank/hill for those who prefer to sit there? ---

Just never understood why some of you guys are so hung up on the track - sure it doesn't look great but with endzone bleachers at both ends it would be marginal - it makes a good buffer between the benches and the stands - the cheerleaders use that area ---

We could and we could also get the games on the schedule with the understanding we would add more seats. I don't think that the difference between 5,000-10,000 seats is keeping us from getting the games on the schedule. If it was we'd find a place to sit people.

The biggest problem with bleachers in both ends is that we can't completely cover the track. The track team still needs a few lanes available for workouts. This severely limits the amount of seats we can put in each end, and we wouldn't be able to fit as many people as we do now with the bank. The track program is the most successful program we have, and they deserve to have their own facility. I'm not sure if we will ever move the seats closer on the sidelines, but we are very limited on expanding in the end zones as of now. I guess we could bring in a bunch of temporary seats for the south end zone for one big game and then remove them after, but that may not be worth the extra cost.

I know we have discussed this for several years now and we found some examples of stadiums with tracks and how they worked the additional bleachers - I think your dad and I discussed this a couple of years ago - I know the University of Nevada was one we discussed - they had a similar layout except for no bank/hill - at one time they had the track going under the larger of the two endzones and behind the smaller - it looks as if their remodeling plan removes the portion of the track under the larger stands - here's a site ---

Not sure how many we'd have to guarantee them, but also note that someone like NC State would create about the largest demand possible (large, in-state school). Wake wouldn't require nearly as many. Duke might struggle to sell out the regular visitors' section. Either would still be a great draw for App.

There are also plenty of out of state programs we could try to schedule that wouldn't require as many tickets. You're talking about how many tickets NCSU would require to come to Boone, but how many do you think they'll actually bring to Troy? So if KBS can't accommodate NCSU, it could still accommodate a comparable out-of-state program, as Troy has done repeatedly.

Heck, Duke's stadium only has a stated capacity of about 34,000, and they got freakin' Alabama to come play them.

As far as the permanent seats vs. lawn seating, I just don't see why that's that big of an issue. If a visiting team requires a larger than normal ticket allotment, couldn't we just give them the upper deck seats behind the normal visitor's section? Let App fans fill up the lawn, where plenty prefer to sit anyway.

I am all for replacing the temporary bleachers on the other end with permanent seating eventually. Just don't want to wait until that's done to get some bigger-name opponents in Boone, and I don't think we should have to.

didn't see if it had stated this previously but the reason for State's openings were that LSU bought them out of a 2-game deal --- guess with the impending playoffs LSU was looking for a higher quality opponent ---
