How is the fact the DA looking into the whole thing being an alum not an egregious conflict of interest? He is talking of dropping charges due to the fact he was given good info. All for the sake of not embarrassing the school(his alma mater) on the witness stand. Sickening.

The depth of UNC nepotism goes far beyond the UNC System board and well into the legal system.
We all knew the Tar Holes were immune to accountability.

Was there any question as to whether they would "get away with it"?
This process has taken several years so that should have been an indicator that it is not a high priority and has been put on the back burner to keep the visibility as low as possible.

everyone knew what the outcome was going to be 2 years ago, they stacked the deck, not surprised the lead investigator was a graduate. What sad about this is if this happen at any other school in NC, I guarantee he would have come up with a different conclusion, oh well, when your in total control of the state government, why should we have expected anything other result?

Let's not jump the gun here guys. The article is about the professor's charges being dropped. Sounds like he's given some good info to the federal prosecutor. Now I'm a little concerned about the DA being a UNC grad as well but the article doesn't say that the University is going to get off, just that the professor may get off. But maybe I'm confused. I don't think this is over yet.

There was never any doubt as to whether they would get away with it. Any other school in North Carolina would have already had their entire athletic department shuttered over something like this, but Chapel Hill will never be touched.

Sounds like he should be arrested if he does nothing.
Just wish we got our fair share of state money.

I thought the same thing. Sounds like the professor spilled his guts and saved the DA plenty of work. Since these things are usually settled on "how much" of this went on, I imagine that there will be a line forming of professors to "cut a deal".

I live in Southern Maryland, thus, they may be a little warm by the time I get there. Then again, I could put them on ice in a cooler.

You'd probably be one or two short by the time you hit the NC state line...

Best he hold off on the drinking and driving. He could always lie and say he went to UNC-Chapel Hill, I guess.

I'd probably have to pull over somewhere past Roanoke and pick up more.

By the way, my wife would be driving. I may lift a few 12 ouch weights, however, I never (and, I mean never) get behind the wheel!!

They'll get away with a lot, but their pride has taken a big hit. They've been the butt of jokes in the national media, ridiculed by Colbert, and shamed on the cover of SI. After decades of insisting they were above such scandal, everyone now knows that they are no better than SMU, UNLV, and all the others; or as Dennis Green would say, "They were who we knew they were."
"They sold their souls for two tire bowls."
