The Board of Trustees Athletics Committee will hold a workshop on September 21, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Randolph Hall Boardroom starting at 1:30 p.m. The following is the agenda:

I. Call to Order, Welcome and Introductions

II. Information Items:

III. Discussion Items:

Athletics Conference

IV. Other Business:

V. Executive Session

1. For legal advice on potential contractual negotiations with athletic conferences
VI. Action Item:

Athletics Conference Contract Resolution, if needed.
Their last formal BOT meeting in August tabled the move due to more facts needed to be known. The boosters club has already voted almost unanimously in favor of the move.

So this could be the day, or it could be much ado about nothing.

Live tweets from the meeting. Very interesting stuff. Last update was 20 minutes ago so there's more to come.
Here at Randolph Hall on the campus of CofC. Athletics committee meeting to discuss Cougars conference future. A jump to CAA could be today.

SoCon ranked 23rd in RPI last year. CAA was No. 14. Last time Cougs won a SoCon title? 1999:

Those were basketball RPI rankings by the way.

The College of Charleston booster club voted 21-1 to go to CAA. How much will that influence Board of Trustees Athletic Committee?

Just listening to Athletics Committee chairman Dwight Johnson early remarks, sounds like the Cougars are headed to CAA.

Johnson: 'not just an athletic decision' to move to CAA.

No question CAA is going to be a better conference. ... but question, can Cougs compete? Will athletic department invest the money?

CofC will be at the bottom of the CAA as far as budget for basketball.

Johnson making a compelling case for move to CAA. I'd be shocked if CofC doesn't make the move.

Johnson: 'Majority of coaches of CofC support move to CAA.'

Johnson: 'move to CAA would cost school $580,000 more in travel and $20,000 more in annual conference fee.'

Johnson: 'Basketball coaches at CofC salary in line with what CAA coaches are making.'

CofC has fourth highest athletic budget in SoCon when you take out football and scholarship at private schools.

CofC athletic budget in CAA would rank 7th or 8th.

CofC AD Joe Hull: 'Most athletes CofC recruits don't like SoCon. Hurts in all sports, but baseball.'

Hull: 'Basketball head coach's salary is above average when compared to rest of CAA.'

CofC coach hoop coach Doug Wojick reportedly making $400,000 a year.

George Mason hoop coach making $714,500.

50 national TV games in CAA. SoCon has 4 national TV games. Hull: 'SoCon basketball is nearly invisible on national stage.'

Still debating, but sounds more like the decision has been made. Hull defending CAA, while throwing SoCon under the bus! #CAA.

FYI. CofC last won 'invisible' SoCon in basketball in 1999.

One committee member worried about the amount of classes student-athletes will miss because of travel. Blah. Blah. Blah. . Who really cares?

This isn't about the athlete-students. This is about school attracting out of state students.

Athletic committee Jimmy Hightower: 'we're used to winning here.' #CAA.

CofC wants to become a 'national institution' not a regional university. Good luck with that.

CofC baseball coach Monte Lee concerned that players parents won't be able to see their kids play.

Johnson: 'Baseball is the one sport that will be effected negatively.'

Athletic board member on the phone says, 'he doesn't support move to CAA.'

Athletic board member said numbers committee are using are not accurate.

Correction. Guy on the phone is a Board of Trustee member. Taking the athletic committee to task.

Johnson: 'SoCon and CAA has different distribution system.'

Board of Trustee member is Jeff Schliz. He's throwing the committee under the bus. Doesn't want to make the move.'

Schliz: 'why are we so concerned about students from the Northeast.' Good question.

Johnson. 'CofC would make the move on July 1 2013 to the CAA if they make the move.' #CAA.

Johnson seems to think that the CAA would go to 12 teams with 'Southern' and 'Nothern' divisions. #CAA

Committee going to executive session to discuss conference contractual issues.
