Letter to the editor in the CO regarding the UNC crappola

This would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Notice, too, that the dude doesn't mention basketball.

UNC scandal still not as bad as those other football schools

The debacle which occurred at our university our university is miniscule compared with situations ongoing in a vast majority of universities with great football programs. One difference: UNC laid out all the facts and fully cooperated with the NCAA and the recent independent investigation, a move other schools will never do. An investigation of universities with successful football programs across the country would reveal such grave infractions that the football programs would definitely be closed.

I couldn't help but note that he stated "laid out all the facts and fully cooperated with the NCAA." It seems he forgot to mention that it took years and all the "King's horses and all the King's men" to make them half way do so. What a joke.

Our university really cracked me up.

I started laughing when he mentioned "great football program" and UNC in the same paragraph.

This is exactly the kind of Hole mentality that makes them so dispicable and easily hated. "Greater than thou" attitude.

It is just as if the investigation and NCAA are wrong. Sheesh!

He says UNC "laid out all the facts" yet I seem to remember they said these paper classes only started in the mid-2000's and ended once the initial report came out a few years ago. Now this report says it dates back to 1993. Yes, they were completely honest with he NCAA...

Even in the midst of the worst academic fraud scandal in modern history, they want to tell you that they are better than everyone else, and you should believe it. If they made a mistake, then everyone else must have made worse mistakes...makes me wonder if the writer sits on the BOG.

Some dummy I went to high school with was trying to say the same thing, that this isn't a big deal and that UNC gave them their diplomas so it's obviously on the up and up. I didn't even bother with him, he's too far gone

When all is said and done, I'm guessing the Raleigh News & Observer will win a Pulitzer for coverage of this story. Without the Observer's relentless digging, UNC would never have been cajoled into commissioning the Martin report, much less the Wainstein report. UNC officials at the highest level tried to minimize and obfuscate this story at every turn. Now that this sad saga is almost over, no one at UNC has any reason to crow.

Kane has been getting some serious hate mail too. Especially from the UNCSOL grads

“You have disgraced yourself, your profession, the Roman Catholic faith and most significantly UNC-Chapel Hill,”

“I do not know how you can go home at night, look your own children in the eye and have them think that you are a man of honesty and integrity.”

Should have gone to law school at Central anyway. :ugeek:

Charlie, I'm hoping that his "saga" is not almost over. Too many are apparently going unpunished figuratively. Good thing ol' Deano has dementia or he would be heartbroken..

Still some will get on here and cry like little girls that UNC will not come to Boone. First of all it is just plain embarrassing that some think we need UNC sports to validate us. Second why on earth would you want those people in Boone?

Yep - their idiot fans will never get it - some guy called into to David Glenn this week and actually said, "All you have to do is drive 8 miles over to Duke and you will find the exact same thing" --- that says it all about their idiot fans!!! :?

Will somebody in the Charlotte area please compile all of these thoughts and send a rebuttal. It will not open the eyes of this person more than likely, but maybe, just maybe it will open the eyes of others.

I read this and laughed my butt off! Talking about needing a reality check. UNC is getting a huge dose of humility, something many proud alums cannot stomach. Wait until the NCAA completes investigation 2.0. It's not going to be pretty. I'm betting big loss of scholarships and multi-year probation for FB and BB, and possibly women's BB. And Roy may be facing retirement sooner than he wished.

I like your thinking.

Women's soccer should see some penalties, too. They have emails from the head coach directly asking for these classes for a player.

Being a bit generous with the bolded.

I have thought that same thing over the years. Early on I wanted them on the schedule just so we could whip their arse. Now, the heck with 'em. After all the success our football team has had over the past 10 years we don't need their colors in KBS. Like you I don't want to validate anything they do over there.
