Clemson-Louisville
Winless Louisville giving Clemson all it can handle early in the second half. Clemson leads 7-3 but Louisville has the ball in Tiger territory.
edit: Louisville up 10-7.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
I'm confused by Clemsons play calling, they aren't using their athletes IMO.
Clemson's #90 and #2 on defense are first or second round NfL picks.
They need to let Watson start picking this defense apart vs all these screen passes. If they don't they may lose this game.

Trick formation leads to another Clemson TD, now up 17-10.Saint3333 wrote:I'm confused by Clemsons play calling, they aren't using their athletes IMO.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
Clemson looks very similar to what we saw last week. OL and special teams are problematic for them. Only difference is Louisville matches up better at WR/CB than us. Oh and no gifts on pick 6s and FG trys.

The Clemson board is on fire! They've got everybody but Dabo going under the bus.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
I could not understand the play call by Louisville on their last position. They played well in spurts, I however do not feel that the kick-off return was legit. And on the 3rd down conversion with 1:23 to play or so the officials missed a face-mask call.
The ACC is notorious for horrible officials.
But I feel that the Louisville coaching staff used the game film from the App defense on how to get to the Clemson QB, with the different reads and coverage's.
And App showed a wrinkle in the Clemson special teams as well. And it showed again last night.
App is ready for the Sun Belt, I believe a special season is ahead of us all to watch unfold.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
I agree with your post. Watson is an elite quarterback, but he's not getting any help from his o-line, and that's holding what is supposed to be an explosive offense back. It showed last night. I could be wrong but I swear I heard the announcers say that Louisville's DBs were as big or bigger than Clemson's receivers, nearly all of them at or over 6'3". That's huge, but I guess that's the future of the sport. Not every defensive back field will have that size and, if Watson can create is own time, Clemson will still pick apart some defenses.
Clemson is open next week and then hosts Notre Dame and Ga Tech. They could easily drop both games.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
Louisville 19 yards rushing vs Clemson 202 yards
App State 203 yards rushing vs Clemson 140 yards
Louisville 253 yards passing vs Clemson 199 yards
App State 95 yards passing vs Clemson 252 yards
Louisville 272 yards, total offense vs Clemson 402 yards total offense
App State 298 yards, total offense vs Clemson 392 yards total offense
The big difference other than the score was "costly" turnovers. We got rattled on offense early and never regained our confidence. I was disappointed Clemson didn't do better against, a maybe, not so good ACC team but I still think thier defense is going to cause major headaches for all the teams on their schedule. If they want to contend for a NC, they are really going to have to work on their offensive line and play calling.

Watson wore a wrist band with Devan Stringer's daughter's initials again last night... Class!

Re: Clemson-Louisville
I didn't hear the announcers but according to a guy I work with, the announcers mentioned that Clemson was a bit banged up from their game against App. Not sure if they were talking about the injuries sustained to certain players/positions or if their team was a bit bruised up and coming in on a short week.
Clemson didn't really attempt to go deep in the first half. This is probably due to their shaky line play and not wanting to expose DW to the rush while the WR's were trying to get open. Looking at recruiting, it seems as if the coaches are trying to shore up the secondary.

Re: Clemson-Louisville
Not sure what to make of this one, but I wouldn't ding Clemson too much for it. Short week, on the road, against a team that was expected to be one of the better ones in the league (and was probably desperate after starting 0-2). Louisville is 0-3 but they will still likely wind up going to a bowl IMO.
At the same time, there's a reason why Clemson isn't in the top 10 despite being the ACC "favorite."

Re: Clemson-Louisville
I'm not too sure I would make too much out of this. Their first team offense and first team defense did not play the whole game against us so the stats would be a little skewed. They looked like a team that had to travel and play on a short week in a hostile environment. Their o-line is suspect as is their special teams.mikeyosef wrote:Louisville 19 yards rushing vs Clemson 202 yards

Re: Clemson-Louisville
Living in Atlanta I hear constant SEC analysis. Everybody says ALL conference road wins are big and tough to get. You take the W and move on. I would say that is also true for ACC against most of the mid to upper tier teams. Clemson was playing on the road in tough venue, short week, against a good ACC team with 0-2 record that badly needed to prove something, a team that felt they missed beating Clemson last year in Death Valley. That is not an easy task and you may not look good in the process. BTW, visiting teams lose Thursday games 80% of the time in college football. Clemson did what they had to do to get the W. That is all that will count.
Louisville did not make a series of critical bad decisions/plays that put them so far in the hole that Clemson could pin their ears back and go for the kill like we did. Clemson is very good but we also contributed to a series of plays that quickly led to the outcome of the day.
