Louisiana Financial Problems
Bill to limit travel by Louisiana schools
Of course, LSU is exempted from the provisions of the bill.

Re: Louisiana Financial Problems
Yes, I should have mentioned that the bill only addresses Olympic sports. Still would make it very difficult for them to remain members of their current conferences.
I can't imagine that this bill will get much support, but then again, one has to wonder what Louisiana politicians are willing to sacrifice to save LSU. Maybe more than we believe.

Surely this will not gain traction. There sure are a bunch of crazy people running state governments.

Re: Louisiana Financial Problems
This is not that much different than regionalization of conferences. I think many here have expressed support for the notion of being in a conference with a more compact footprint. Maybe this is the first real attempt to get the regionalization process moving. Maybe LA and other states adopting such legislation is the only thing that will get that process moving. So far it has been all talk, and if this bill fails in a state as poor as LA the notion of conference realignment based on common sense will likely remain all talk.HighlandsApp wrote:appst89 wrote:Bill to limit travel by Louisiana schools

True but this proposal is set to FORCE these schools into a league none of them wanted...it has zero element of choice from the affected schools.CVAPP wrote:This is not that much different than regionalization of conferences. Also this bill's author is a grad, former assistant AD, and tennis coach from LSU...which is conveniently exempt. The Tigers are the sole reason the LSU system is exempt. I doubt highly Rep Carter is looking out for the interests of LSU Eunice.

Re: Louisiana Financial Problems
There might be a reason that LSU is exempt from this law other than it being the flagship university and the alma mater/former employer of the bill's author: LSU athletics is probably self-supporting and does not need state funding for their teams to travel.
I'm not saying that is why the exempted LSU, but if the teams aren't spending state money it doesn't make sense to restrict travel.

This is not about this situation in particular but to think that money is not going to become a VERY serious problem is just driving with your eyes closed.

Perhaps they are operating in the black but I'd be willing to bet they still receive state funding.newtoasu wrote:There might be a reason that LSU is exempt from this law other than it being the flagship university and the alma mater/former employer of the bill's author: LSU athletics is probably self-supporting and does not need state funding for their teams to travel.
