Really, Marshall ?
The Thundering Turd hit rock bottom tonight, losing at home to UNC- Concord.

Man oh man. I've seen some embarrassing losses in my day. But I'd shut the whole damn program down if I lost to UNCC. Brutal loss for Marshall. Awful awful stuff.

I have the unexpectedly good fortune to be posting to you live from the Union bar in Huntington tonight. Regrettably left my App gear at home for this trip. Lots of folks in green here drowning their sorrows.

You were able to use "in Huntington" and "good fortune " in the same sentence. We live in strange times.EastHallApp wrote:I have the unexpectedly good fortune to be posting to you live from the Union bar in Huntington tonight. Regrettably left my App gear at home for this trip. I always carry an emergency App shirt with me on trips.

Marshall was one win away from a BCS game a few years back. Good program who has fallen on extremely rough times.
Good news for us is this may save Lamberts job.

It is kind of a caustic tale of what NCCAF can be. Marshall was a top 10 ranked team at one point. It's actually kind is scary to see how far they've fallen.

Re: Really, Marshall ?
Herd fans are in complete meltdown mode right now. The 49ers SHUT THEM OUT in the 2nd half! Their starting QB was cussing at some fans in the stands towards the end of the game. Trouble brewing up in Huntington. The QB, Chase Litton, has a propensity to stare down WR's and miss throws. One of the Herd fans added this golden nugget in regards to this situation, "Now the problem is.....does staring at a front row fan and launching obscenities that land 5 rows over the fan's head really count as cussing that fan out?"

Just two years ago, in fact. They finished 13-1 and ranked. Even last year they won 10 games. And the same coach who led those teams is still there.Goapps15 wrote:Marshall was one win away from a BCS game a few years back. Good program who has fallen on extremely rough times.

Hard to believe how far and how fast they've fallen. Wish our series against them started this year.

My wife is a three-time App grad, but is technically a Huntington, WV native. Her Mom and Dad moved to Winston-Salem before her first birthday and she calls W-S her hometown. Her WV aunts, uncles and cousins, however, are among the long line of *very* unhappy MU grads today. Heads will likely roll over the UNCC "thing" but the problem is who to fire.
Doc Holliday has had too much success with The Herd to be the fall guy. He's gonna be under a lot of pressure for the remainder of this season, but someone else is likely to become the scapegoat. It would cost MU nearly $4 mil to dump Holliday after this season. That just isn't happenin' in rusty and conservative ol' Huntington. The following is from the MU FB media guide...
What’s up, Doc?
Marshall Coach John "Doc" Holliday, a WVU grad and former Mountaineer player and coach, enters his seventh season on the Herd sideline and the only current Conference USA head coach who was in the Texas-based league when Holliday arrived is Rice’s David Bailiff.
Holliday, named at Marshall in December 2009, was part of a 23-man FBS coaching-hire class prior to the 2010 season. Of those 23
coaches, only three remain on the job at the schools hiring them in 2010 – Holliday, Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly.
Holliday is 50-28 (.636) in six seasons.
Holliday received a six-year contract extension this past spring, through June 2021, bumping his base and supplemental salary to $755,500.
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.

Marsha fans were complaining earlier this year that UNCC didn't deserve to be in CUSA with the likes of them and USM.
Hope they had plenty of hot sauce for that crow!

Re: Really, Marshall ?
I know Marshall isn't good this year, but it still felt nice to beat them. Many of their fans ran their mouths all off season about not belonging in CUSA. If we only had one win this year, I would have wanted it to be over Marshall.
We're actually not that bad with the new QB. Klugh, Phillips, and Ogunjobi are all very good. Phillips and Ogunjobi in particular would play and start for virtually any G5 program and even most non-elite P5 programs. CBS has Ogunjobi projected as a fourth round pick, but if he keeps up the strong play he's shown the last few weeks, he may be able to sneak into the third round. NFL Draft Scout has him ranked the 8th best DT in college football. He's a really good kid with a double major in either bio or pre-med and computer science. Couldn't be happier for him and I will be a fan of any team that drafts him.
We are a mediocre coaching staff away from a three game winning streak. Our coaching staff is just so bad with playcalling and game planning. Any wins we have are in spite of them, not because of them.
