Commendable is one way to look at it but pitiful is another. In my eyes those three wins are proof positive there are just too many bowls. We are about at the point where they should just let everybody play. One extra non conference game at the end of the year. Seriously, we have gotten to the point where there are now more bowls than republican candidates for president.NewApp wrote:Good grief, McLeansvilleApp. 3 five win teams, was worse than I thought, but if it's true they won their 3 bowls out of the 40, that's commendable.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:I thought it was three teams with 5 wins. I have confidence we can do that year in and year out. Needing 6 wins is way too low a bar for our program. Talk about swallowing pride for some of these teams to go FCS. I would have to swallow an awful lot of pride to go to a bowl game with 6 wins. OR oh my lord how do I even say this....... 5 wins?

I saw a scenario floated on the Sunbelt bbs if Wichita State does start football, of the Sunbelt courting them. Would make sense as a football start up to join Sunbelt and an AMAZING basketball get. For that reason I wouldn't hold my breath. Maybe an associate member for football only.

Re: RE: Re: Possible Plan of Idaho if kicked out of SunBelt
There was talk of a possible SB tie-in. It would be a great location for us. I think an SB-CUSA tie-in would be nice. I am not sure if this bowl has been given an official stamp of approval from the NCAA nor do I know what that takes to be honest. I do think it takes more than just a bowl saying we want to host.appbio91 wrote:I agree, we would lose in a scenario with less bowls if it were at large selection. I would like to see conference champions go to major bowls and then have less conference tie-in bowls. Set bar higher than 6 wins for sure. Although it looks like there will at least one more bowl in 2016. I somehow missed that the medal of honor bowl would now be a traditional bowl played on December 18 in Charleston. Anybody now what the tie-ins will be? Nice destination on my birthday!!!McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:But do you really think a 10-2 G5 school would get a bowl game over a Prig5 school with a 7-5 record if there were less bowls.? I bet you would see a lot of deserving G5 schools not in a bowl at all so the SEC could get 5 or 6 schools in a bowl. I would prefer a smaller number of bowls but only if the bowls are done in a way to make sure final records play a huge part and not just conference affiliation.bcoach wrote:I believe there were three. Look at the season we had last year and we got the same reward a team with 5 win got.

Regarding the Medal of Honor Bowl, I had an interesting conversation with one of the ESPN guys that choose bowl sites as he was checking out of the same hotel as me on Sunday after the Camellia Bowl.
He stated that all of his colleagues were quite impressed with App turnout (as was Montgomery) and mentioned another bowl with ties to SunBelt. I asked him if it was the one in Charleston, SC and he said "right state but city is still up for grabs". After pressing him a little , he said that city of Myrtle Beach wants that bowl and is putting together a plan to try to get it in lieu of Charleston. For what it is worth .......................

I was quite impressed with our turnout as well. I would be willing to bet you that both App and Southern will be at the top of the list for SB tie-in picks this year because of our turnout. Charleston or MB would both be great. Actually I would return to Montgomery as well. All of these easy travel locations are a win for us. If we are conference champs and get N.O. that would be cool too but a tougher trip in an arena that is way too large for that bowl. All of this is predicated on TCB in a flash which I am confident we will do.

Hey, I am just the messenger. He stated that the city of MB was putting together a plan to build a new stadium for the bowl game. Who knows ?

Does Myrtle Beach mean CCU's stadium, or some other venue I am not aware of?MDaniels84 wrote:Regarding the Medal of Honor Bowl, I had an interesting conversation with one of the ESPN guys that choose bowl sites as he was checking out of the same hotel as me on Sunday after the Camellia Bowl.

Per my brief conversation with the gentleman, MB wanted to build a stadium dedicated for bowl game and only use Coastal's stadium just until they can get it built.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Does Myrtle Beach mean CCU's stadium, or some other venue I am not aware of?MDaniels84 wrote:Regarding the Medal of Honor Bowl, I had an interesting conversation with one of the ESPN guys that choose bowl sites as he was checking out of the same hotel as me on Sunday after the Camellia Bowl.

A rather large expense for one game a year. That would take a long time to pay off in hotel taxes and such given the crowd a bowl would draw. It's not like it is the Rose Bowl relocating.
If a stadium were to happen it would be nice to see it used more than for a bowl game only.

Wonder if the find folks in New Orleans ever consider using Tulane's Yulman Stadium. It's new, seats 30,000, and is easy to get to.
