Texas State torched by UTSA

Unread post by hapapp » Sun Sep 24, 2017 6:17 am

UTSA ran for 370+ yards yesterday against Texas State. In four games, we have yet to produce a 100 yard rusher. Despite the special teams problems yesterday, the OL remains a concern with its inability to control the line of scrimmage.

We have a small OLine that struggles against certain teams. UTSA was a better matchup for TxSt.

I said it after the TxSt game that game film would be a detriment. Opposing defenses would put a spy on that QB.

So far our game remains the only evidence to support the theory that Texas State is "much improved."

Also our OL is not particularly small other than the true freshman center.

When one stops to consider that the center may well be the most important offensive player and then considers that the skills needed to read and call defenses are rarely fully developed in a true freshman, one will not likely be surprised with our O-line play so far this year. I trust that we have a true freshman at center because he has earned that spot. I also trust that every aspect of our team will improve as the season progresses

All is well. We are still Mountaineers. Life doesn't get better than that.

Center generally calls out blocking assignments so perhaps our freshman isn't quite up to speed

I don't think Moore has been 100% healthy all year, looks hesitant to commit. Upshaw has done an outstanding job but he's not on the level of Cox or Moore at 100%...YET, but he's getting there.

Agreed, i don't think Moore is healthy. From what I saw on Saturday he shouldn't have been playing. He is hurt and doesn't even look good jogging out from the side line. I don't know why the coaches kept running him out there when it was clear to me he had no real chance of being effective.

UTSA did beat Baylor 2 weeks ago - No Baylor is not the Baylor of the last several years but this Baylor team put 41 on Oklahoma this past Saturday ---

You know, another angle with the Texas State game could have been that it was their "big" game of the year. The reigning Sun Belt champ is coming into your house for the first time and you're tired of being literally in the bottom five of the entire FBS league. A win over App probably gets you out of that bottom 5.

If I was Withers, I'd be telling my boys that this is my old school and beating them at home will put our program on the up and up. So I wouldn't have been surprised if a bunch of their players had that game circled on their calendars the same way our players had Wake Forest circled on theirs. Add in that we were obviously more focused on the following game, you get a close call. That's what happens when you're the hunted.

Had we punched in the late td to go up 14 nobody shutters an eye. Every team in this league wants to beat us.

Our oline play improved a lot in one week, if our line plays like they did against Wake we beat Texas St by 20. Hats off to Texas St dline against us they played very well.

Our OLine play was excellent last week. 0 sacks on 50 drop backs.

The old so and so beat so and so, so that means so and so argument. The statistics and outcome of that game mean nothing to App State. We played them two weeks ago. We didn't play well. We won.

TxSt currently looking much better than I’d expected against Wyoming.

Either they had their best game against us or we really played poorly. Probably a bit both.

Yeah I’d say their D stepped up and we may have been looking to Wake a bit.
