Congrats to him, but I’d sure like to have seen the word “football” somewhere in the write up. I don’t know him from Adam but he sure sounds like a basketball guy. Bentsen was a pleasant surprise, hopefully he will be too.T-Dog wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:13 pmKeith Gill, Executive Associate Commish of the A-10, according to USA Today.

Looks solid to me. Hopefully he continues the progress that the Belt has made in football and can help get some traction in basketball as well.

I knew he had played football at Duke. Its just that according to his bio, his administrative experience has been mostly with basketball, as his primary focus the past two years has been Men's Basketball Championship Community Relations for the A-10. I wish him well and hope for our sake he's a great hire.

Re: New Sun Belt Commissioner
Benson was good. He brought a wealth of experience and relationships across the NCAA committee structure. He also could “look ahead” and see what would benefit his institutions. As a G5 Commissioner, that skill is vitally important. We don’t have the resources that others have yet we still need to achieve similarly. Part of the reason the SunBelt is on the rise is that it was Carl’s vision that saw that adding App and GASO would improve the athletic profile of the conference. It has. Also his beating the drum for a change in football scheduling to 1-P5 and 2- G5 teams had much to do with the conference getting more money and there by schools getting more money. He knew how to use the system we are in to advance the conference.... Mr Gill would be wise to continue on that path.

Looks like he had an interesting stint as AD at Richmond and that boosters were mad he didn’t pay enough attention to basketball. It sounds like football has been his main priority.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 6:48 amAppDawg wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:07 pmFormer Duke football player with admin Experience at Vandy & Oklahoma.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:42 pmCongrats to him, but I’d sure like to have seen the word “football” somewhere in the write up. A different article shows perceived problems with Gill’s leadership with Richmond football leading to his resignation.

Re: New Sun Belt Commissioner
Yeah that’s the article i got my info from. If you read through essentially the issues were he wouldn’t let unqualified kids into the school just to play football, and if you go lurking on message boards they said he didn’t pay enough attention to basketball. Seems most side with Gill over the football coach Danny Rocco, who seems to have left because he didn’t see eye to eye with Gill on the quality of student needed to be admitted to play football at UR.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:25 amA different article shows perceived problems with Gill’s leadership with Richmond football leading to his resignation.

Yep. Sounded like a mess with all of the UR coaches and strongest program supporters going against him. Anyway, he takes over at a time when the SBC is much improved in football, with 4 ten win teams, bowl success, and having basically leapfrogged CUSA and the MAC. Hopefully he can build on Benson's successes.

Seeing Georgia State's football program has been a dumpster fire essentially since its inception, I'd be talking about my school's better team too.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:42 pmCongrats to him, but I’d sure like to have seen the word “football” somewhere in the write up. It doesn't, I misread a SBC graphic on social media which looked like someone from Georgia State had gotten the nod for the position.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 7:27 amWhat does Georgia State's football program have to do with Gill?hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 3:04 pmSeeing Georgia State's football program has been a dumpster fire essentially since its inception, I'd be talking about my school's better team too.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 8:42 pmCongrats to him, but I’d sure like to have seen the word “football” somewhere in the write up.
