Re-re-re-realignment

Seems some over at U.D. think Houston, Cincinnati, or Central Florida may get the nod from the Big 12 to join. Leaving a void in the AAC - which would probably re-load via C-USA - which would probably re-load via the Sun Belt.

Depending on what West Virginia wants I realistically see it being Cincinnati or Houston. Cincinnati gives the Big 12 a great media market right inside the Big 10's footprint, but their football isn't that great, and gives WVU a geographical rival 300 miles away (if they want it). UCF gives them a foothold in Florida, but with UF, FSU, and Miami probably not that strong of one. They'd be out there on an island by themselves. Houston solidifies the historical Texas footprint, but with Texas, T. Tech, and TCU the Big 12 network already pulls big ratings numbers in Houston without the Cougs.

Depends on how they want to play, aggressive or safe. UCF is aggressive - UH is safe.

What does everyone think? Do you think this will trickle down and affect App - do you even want it to?

I find it pretty disappointing that ESPN has a say in who the BIG XII picks. This speaks to the fundamental problem with college football.

man, its almost too many variables to try and predict who will go where, but I think if we can keep our present members for the next 4 or 5 years I think we have a great chance to become the premier mid major football conference in America, and maybe even turn around the basketball programs.

TV contracts have influenced every other instance of realignment, why not this one? Conference commissioners don't care what's good for their students, athletes, or attendance anymore - they care about TV revenue. And if you've got the worldwide leader in sports telling you "invite X-university and it'll help you" then that's what they're going to do.

I understand what your saying and I agree with you. Yes television markets have a huge impact on TV contracts. My disappointment is with the fact that ESPN is no longer the elephant in the room but it now has a seat at the round table. Joining conferences should be about aligning yourself with like minded institutions. The Big 10 has criteria for adding schools that have achieved a certain designation in academics. To compromise your values for the sake of the all mighty dollar is shameful. And yes I know that I referenced the Big 10 and this is about the Big 12. I was just making a point.
