Is Ark State kicking themselves now that Malzahn is on the market?

Interesting question. My first thought was no, but the more I think about it he does seem like the more natural for in Jonesboro. Who knows maybe the ink isn't dry on Butch's contract.

I think it’s scary in the short term. But in the long term he could definitely leave their roster as a barren wasteland

I can't see Malzahn being a viable candidate for any of the SBC programs this year. I keep seeing his name bouncing around, but I don't believe he would entertain a G5 position right now. His stock is plenty high enough to be in the running for the P5 positions that will open up and with his buy-out, he's hardly desperate.

Jones was probably a good hire for Arkansas State. He's not a super star, but he has coached at a high level and will probably do a good job for them.

Major Applewhite has left Butch at the alter and is heading to S.Bama with Kane. Interesting twist here in the Fun Belt!

Agree with News...Applewhite is the scary part of this (if he actually lands in Jonesboro).

It would be nice for someone in the west to actually give ULLLLLLLL a game at some point, to strengthen that side of the draw.

I know this sounds bad, but that is what happens when you hire "out of your league". They will take a job to have one, but as soon as something better comes along, they are gone, even if its only days. Kind of like Dorsey for us a couple years ago. G5's really have to find the perfect person in the right situation for any sort of continuity

Saw that. Got to admit, I love our new signing class, but it would be exciting to see a little splash from a pickup or two out of the portal. It may be on the way, but hard to keep seeing some of these adds to less competitive schools and not feel a little jittery. I trust the plan. Just curious more than anything.

Big names are fine, but we have always looked at the long term payoff of developing 4 year guys and not loading up too much on transfers. I think some of these new coaches are doing that do their immediate success, and maybe not thinking about the long term success of the school, but preparing for their next gig.

Obviously, we taken our own transfer QB because of the lack of an experience in that position. So, its not always about the next job. I'm not that familiar with the USA QB room but Bentley is likely an upgrade for what they have coming back.
