No. The Holmes Center seats 8300 people and has plenty of basketball court to accommodate all the media that could possibly want to be there. If this is as big an announcement as we are making it out to be then excluding our students and fans is a major blunder. Sorry, can't give a pass for this one.GoAppsGo92 wrote:Gents,

I think we may want to give the administration a pass here.

Gonna be in the athletics center right?
I imagine its easier to set up the equipment there, and its cleaner, and nicer.

There's not even a mention on the main App website. Nothing, zilch, nada. Whereas Georgia Southern has a large announcement picture on their website.appst89 wrote:Sorry, can't give a pass for this one.
Maybe we're embarrassed about taking a SB invite and they're keeping it on the down low?

Our marketing and promotion folks have managed to consistently underwhelm me for many years now. I've come to expect very little from them and we usually get that or less.RankinApp wrote:There's not even a mention on the main App website. Nothing, zilch, nada. Re: Major Announcement
No way the HCC is full of press. I say bring in the band, cheer leaders. If the place is paked, then great, if not it at least lets anyone that would like to go to be there. Think of ASU66. His post is what is needed to be remembered. Talk about dedication and he might get shut out. Bad call.GoAppsGo92 wrote:Gents,

Re: Major Announcement
I'm just trying to think of a single conference announcement that has been done in a basketball arena. We have all seen a bunch of conference announcements over the last couple of years. I've yet to see a venue in these pressers that held more than a few hundred folks, let alone 8300.appst89 wrote:No. The Holmes Center seats 8300 people and has plenty of basketball court to accommodate all the media that could possibly want to be there. Re: Major Announcement
So, are we excited about this or not? Why are we shutting out the students and the fanbase and having it in a closed room? This is a bad call and there is no way to spin it otherwise.GoAppsGo92 wrote:I'm just trying to think of a single conference announcement that has been done in a basketball arena. Re: Major Announcement
That may be true, but if they are expecting enough interest to turn folks away they need to move to a bigger venue. Bring a curtain and have the camera focus on the podium. If the place is empty and most likely it will be closer to empty than standing room only, then so be it, but to leave out fans and students that want to be a part of this is just not a smart move IMHO. Put the podium up near one side of HCC and close to the seats, so there is no need to put chairs on the floor. That still opens up some seats for those that want to be there, if not the entire HCC.GoAppsGo92 wrote:I'm just trying to think of a single conference announcement that has been done in a basketball arena. Re: Major Announcement
Glenn, YesAppCan and I checked out the university master calendar and learned that the Walker College of Business is sponsoring BB&T's CEO in a lecture series event between 2 PM and 3 PM at HCC. Other arrangements could have been made for that event--like Farthing Auditorium or Legends. Farthing seats 1,734 for performances and lectures. I seriously doubt the BB&T exec will draw more than that. http://business.appstate.edu/events/3053appst89 wrote:No. The Holmes Center seats 8300 people and has plenty of basketball court to accommodate all the media that could possibly want to be there. This was a missed opportunity to get university friends, alumni and students stoked and to get new Yosef Club membership commitments. A huge PR stumble.

Re: Major Announcement
At least this is a baby step in the right direction. 24 hours ago SID said no there was no presser scheduled and would not confirm or deny if we had an invitation or not. Now we have a PC and a major announcement. By tomorrow it might be held at KBS

Re: Major Announcement
First off there have been what 15 plus conference moves in the last two years? Of those I cant think of one........one out of 15 that had a pep rally. Secondly the Sun Belt may not allow pep rallies at conference announcements. As much as I would like to be there as well how about we all get over ourselves. ASU gave us a great education and OWES us nothing more. I don't care your Yosef giving level. If anyone here personally funded the entire feasibility study feel free to gripe.

It is also a Wednesday at 4pm. Many of us still work full time jobs and don't have the ability to be there on such short notice. So the 100-200 retired donors that might make it can get stoked about it?asu66 wrote:Glenn, YesAppCan and I checked out the university master calendar and learned that the Walker College of Business is sponsoring BB&T's CEO in a lecture series event between 2 PM and 3 PM at HCC. Re: Major Announcement
I don't see it as such a PR debacle. I do understand how some are upset that the public is not invited but how many people attend press conferences anyway? If they did a big over the top dog and pony show and nobody shows or there is a vocal contingent of the stay FCS crowd it could be embarrassing. I think they are trying to control the message and keep it classy.ASUPATCH wrote:It is also a Wednesday at 4pm. Re: Major Announcement
We're really giving CSNbbs a workout.
http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=626665
Also, GTS who runs the site on the CUSA board:
Enormous influx of Georgia Southern and Appalachian State fans. Like seriously the most registrations I've ever seen in the queue since we went to admin approval. By three fold
I have some tweaks I can make to help with that error -- but it is designed to blunt the impact of a huge wave of inbound traffic. It isn't that the server is beyond it's full carrying capacity ... it is that a big influx of traffic hit it all at once. 5,000 people engaged in spread out use is far less brutal to the server than 5,000 people all loading a page at roughly the same time. The limit error prevents the second of those two examples from getting out of hand.

Re: Major Announcement
A lot of opinions about our Admin's lack of communications was covered in this thread Georgia Southern puts out FBS campaign video and I don't want to rehash it here but it pretty clearly points to their lack of planning, ineffectiveness and desire to avoid conflict at all cost.
Let's see on Monday morning GSU had a marching band planned for a "major" announcement (that was going to open) already listed on their web site. We were only a 1.5 days later in our closed door announcement notice that I guess the Admin hope will go as unnoticed as possible.

Apps move to the Sun Belt has been on the 6 o'clock news sports report on WLOS , and WSPA in the Asheville, G'ville/S'Burg the last two days. See, when you are FBS exposure just happens.
