Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
Georgia State really needs to reevaluate where they're at at the end of this season. They could easily jump back down to the FCS and (possibly) be contenders in SoCon or Big South football/basketball.
If they don't want to do that, maybe consider dropping football altogether and heading back to the CAA. The Sun Belt needs to intervene on this. This is bringing down the reputation of every member.

I bet he was kicking himself in the butt the whole game and his wife made him sleep on the sofa for leaving us. He may still right the ship if he can keep himself from being fired long enough.8993 wrote:Georgia State really needs to reevaluate where they're at at the end of this season. Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
What did the starting QB for Georgia State say to the worst football team of all time?APPdiesel wrote:Georgia State is the Nickelback of college football.
"Hey, you guys ready to go play our game?"
Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
ya, you knew the 49er fans would start chirping once they got their first win, of course all it means is they are no longer the worst team in the FBS, they have moved up one position, Georgia State now owns that distinction of being the worst. I know its early, and its only one loss, but I watched the game, GS looks worse than last year, OL is horrible, no running game, and the defense really played hard, but, not a lot of talent on either side of the ball.

Words cannot describe how bad those two teams played yesterday. Trent Miles better put his house up for sale, this is about to be his last season in Atlanta.
There were 8 combined turnovers with a smaller crowd than most high school football games.

Ha, ha, thanks for your support.Rick0714 wrote:What's really sad, almost comical, is listening to the 49er fans. You would honestly think they just beat Alabama.
C-USA: 3-1 with wins over SEC, AAC, and Sun Belt. USTA's loss was to #22 Arizona
Sun Belt: 0-2 with losses to MAC and C-USA
When you beat Howard from the MEAC today I am sure you guys will show the proper restraint and not act like it was Alabama.

Uhhh no. The fans are excited to win of course, but pretty much every post acknowledges we have a serious problem at qb .Rick0714 wrote:What's really sad, almost comical, is listening to the 49er fans. You would honestly think they just beat Alabama.
Without the poor qb play yesterday, we would have steamrolled georgia state.
My three takeaways from yesterday are this:
1. QB play has to get better or we will get destroyed by everyone not named Presbyterian going forward.
2. Our defense is much improved. Yes I know it was georgia state, but we let everyone get yards at will last year. As bad as georgia state is, they're way better than non scholarship football teams. This was a pleasant surprise.
3. Georgia state is really, really bad.
Doubt you will need it, but good luck against Howard today.
Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
you guys did fine yesterday, congrats on the win, your qb did a decent job, just make some bonehead plays in the redzone, his biggest advantage is his size, and his ability to break tackles, your going to need that because your OL still has a long way to go in protecting him. Defensively, you guys played with discipline, and kept everything in front of them, and that's going to be real important moving forward, since there doesn't seem to be a lot of athletic talent on that side of the ball. It was a good win, I thought your coaches did a better job in preparation than GaST. From what I saw yesterday, I could see you guys getting 3 wins this year, which would be a major accomplishment considering its your first year.

I agree that 3 wins would be great. I'd would be pretty happy with that.moehler wrote:you guys did fine yesterday, congrats on the win, your qb did a decent job, just make some bonehead plays in the redzone, his biggest advantage is his size, and his ability to break tackles, your going to need that because your OL still has a long way to go in protecting him. The oline certainly didn't do him favors, especially the center making all those terrible snaps. That had to throw off his rhythm. That said, Johnson has never been good in the redzone.
I wish we used Lee McNeil in the redzone. He doesn't have an arm to sling it down field like Johnson, but he can scan the field and make intermediate throws better. I'm not a huge fan of 2 qb systems, but I'm also not a big fan of being unable to punch it in.
Supposedly the QB transfer we have from A&T has looked good, so he will probably take the reigns next year when he is eligible to play.

Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
I don't understand why everyone is s******* on Charlotte. They are a program that is only 3 years old. They should be excited and pumped up after this win. Sure it was only GAST but still. Tbh I wouldn't mind if Charlotte wins every game they ever play as long as they loose to App. When App goes down there in 2018 I don't want us to beat a team that looses every game they play, I want to beat a team that is competing for a top spot in CUSA. Congrats on the win Charlotte.
The mountains are calling and I must go

Hey Appys, I really do try to always remember that this is your board and mind my manners, so it is fun when we actually have a thread about the 49ers and can engage in some...well let's just call it good natured banter. So I get it, Georgia State quantifiably sucks, but they were the perfect game for our first. A cage match if you will, with neither team having an FBS pelt on the wall, and only one going home feeling legitimate. And on national TV. So, it was only GaSt, but we are 1-0. Next week Presby and probably 2-0, then the party is mostly over. For now we are undefeated. SportsCenter said it well.
Good luck to you today.

Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
nugget 49 we have never had a problem with you, your always respectful on our board, and you aren't here to talk smack, your always welcome, others in the past well...they probably need to stay off our board. I think people, myself included, are more upset that GaSt lost than the 49ers won (if that makes sense) we are in direct competition with the other mid major conferences, these games are really important when we go head to head. This game was not only against a conference rival, but it also was the first one where we had a legitimate shot of winning, and GaSt, just blew it, and made the conference look bad. Now I know, App has no room to talk, after the Liberty game last year, but we redeemed ourselves, if somehow GaSt can turn their season around, than all will be forgiven, but from what I saw yesterday, I think that's asking a lot.

Refrain from the "Appy's" crappola. That's reserved for insiders. Otherwise your post is kosher.Nugget49 wrote:Hey Appys, I really do try to always remember that this is your board and mind my manners, so it is fun when we actually have a thread about the 49ers and can engage in some...well let's just call it good natured banter. Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
I doubt the league will drop GSU, but we certainly need to drop Idaho and NMSU who aren't much better. Both programs have proven they cant compete in FBS for many years. Addition by subtraction.

Re: GaSt Embarrassing the Sunbelt
I commend Charlotte for establishing football (responsibly) the way they did. Charlotte played a few years as an FCS, got their feet wet, went through the initial growing pains of college football at an "easier" level then moved. Regarding Georgia State, someone on here who paid attention to Sunbelt goings-on before we joined may be able to shed some light on their entry...but they bit off way more than they could chew from day 1. It seems maybe Benson was just dead set on securing the Atlanta market and let GA State throw themselves to the wolves. Winning 1 game in 3 seasons means a LOT to recruits. The better athletes won't go to a losing program, so it's like they're trying to climb Everest on their knees.
