I like adding two more localized teams, a la within the geographic footprint, to get to 12 and have a conference game.

SBC West - Tx State, ULL, ULM, Arkansas St, South Alabama and Troy
SBC East - App, Coastal, GSU, Ga Southern, Eastern Kentucky & UT-Chatt
Appalachian State University (Excellence since 1899)

We can have a conference game with 10. Also, if what I have seen regarding the G5 payout minimum is capped at $10 million, I see no reason for a G5 conference to be at more than 10. Further given the current stature of the SBC, we should not add anymore start-ups or Move-ups. It does nothing but water down the conference RPI and keep us further away from a New Years day game. With the removal of NMSU and Idaho we are removing dead weight. Rather than adding, the focus should be on the improvement of the bottom 4 schools in the conference. When that happens the conference as a whole benefits.

Yeah Dawg I don't see the SBC expanding unless two absolute home run expansion teams that add so much perceived value we can't refuse present themselves. Right now those don't exist.

I for one would love to see some stability for a while. With the Sunbelt's CFB payouts now exceeding what CUSA schools will get, shedding arguably the two worst (and most expensive to travel to) programs in the conference I'd say we're sitting pretty.

Related to my last...

With CUSA now at 14 members, MAC at 12, AAC at 11, and MWC at 12, I wonder if those other conferences would want/try to jettison some of their lower performing teams to get to 10. That would leave 9 "out" (plus NMSU makes 10).

Obviously there's no precedent for kicking schools out for under performing but now with the playoff payout being capped at $10 million they have to be thinking about it.
