Re: CCU troubles
It's well documented that bringing CCU into the Sunbelt was for their entire athletic department and not JUST football. Someone else hit it on the head - are they exactly show stoppers in football? No, but they're not chopped liver either. Guarantee you they'll come in and give USA, Ga State, Monroe, and Texas St fits right out of the gate and compete for a .500 league record in year 1.
SBC baseball and golf just got a WHOOOLE lot better.

Re: CCU troubles
Well 3 years ago they beat Montana at Montana before losing at ND State and 2 years ago they lost 39-32 at ND State - I would say that is not folding against top programsmoehler wrote:first, making it to the FCS tournament isn't that hard to do, they take 16 teams, sometimes 2 or 3 with records just over 500, and we are talking about the Big South, again not traditionally a great conference for football powers, just finish in the top 2 and your in. I'll agree it was nice seeing them ranked number 1, but once they got to the tournament, and faced some quality teams, they were shown the door. Like I said I believe they can build a solid mid major program, just doubt whether they can ever see the support from the community.

Re: CCU troubles
Interesting, in 2012 we lost in the second round as well. As we did in 2011. We were 1-3 in our last 4 FCS playoff games.moehler wrote:and they lost in the first round 2006, 2010, 2015, and second round 2012, fun game.
They certainly don't bring the history or reputation that we brought but its not like they haven't fielded a competitive program.

Re: CCU troubles
One of the reasons we were 1-3 in our last 4 FCS playoff games is the loss of quality assistants, one of which was our current head coach.
Re: CCU troubles
no problem CVAPP, honestly if I had to chose between CCU and Ga State, I would take CCU, atleast they are really good at baseball, soccer etc. and there is a good chance football and basketball will be solid additions. GSU, on the other hand, is considered a commuter school, with only limited athletic success. The only big advantage GSU has over CCU is a much larger tv market, and I heard, thought cant verify, that they have sizable corporate funding. If you have not guessed by now, community support is huge to me, and even though, I have questions on whether the community will support CCU football, so far GSU has had a tough time finding people to support them.CVAPP wrote:Mo, not piling on here but CCU was solid add in my opinion. What are your thoughts on GA State?

Re: CCU troubles
Going back to the original topic, CCU went to the state legislature and got around the board that stonewalled them, so the expansion is still on.

Re: CCU troubles
I just moved to North Myrtle Beach for a job opportunity in October and went to a CCU football game to see what they have as far as atmosphere. Not a bad stadium but small and atmosphere does not compare to Boone but not many do in the SBC.SpeedkingATL wrote:CCU makes for a fun football road trip!!
With this recent baseball success, many leaders in the community are working harder to be associated with CCU and this has an excellent chance of snowballing much like our success in back in 2005-2007. Very positive vibe down here regarding CCU now, especially in the business community.

Middle of the pack?APPdiesel wrote:We were middle of the pack in a meh southern conference. What's your point? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you Mo, but I don't think we've earned the right yet to turn our noses up at the new kids on the block.moehler wrote:someone mention men's basketball, well that great the made the big dance two years in a row, but lets be honest, the Big South isn't exactly a powerhouse conference, and I don't believe they did much if anything in the tournament, they wont bring the conference down, but don't expect them to be a major positive going forward.

True. That hurt more than most realized. That and we replaced many with homers. Great guys but no experience.WataugaMan wrote:One of the reasons we were 1-3 in our last 4 FCS playoff games is the loss of quality assistants, one of which was our current head coach.
