Too early to know what it'll be named, but as far as doing minimal changes to Turner Field and having it ready by next fall, it looks good. And I like how they're incorporating the old baseball field layout of Fulton County Stadium into their new baseball field.

And yes, there's no way Georgia State has that many fans as the rendering suggests.

The facilities pictured in those renderings confirm my suspicions. The Panthers are on the way up. To a lesser but almost just as certain degree, the stink is on the way down.

Where the hell did they find all those "fans" to pose for that picture?

Why would you conclude that Georgia Southern is on their way down? One bad hire/season in football doesn't represent a long term trend. Their basketball has exceeded expectations. Other than football, where I call us about even until this year, they've probably exceeded us and have expansion plans for their baseball facility. Is this just wishful thinking?

Well one thing is for sure..........I am envious of the potential fan base in a city of millions.............

Yeah that stadium is pretty sweet...I give them 4-6 years before they start really competing and give us problems

They're still competing with UGA & Ga Tech though and to draw fans they're going to have to win ball games and create excitement. The facility looks great but players like to play in front of big crowds with rabid fans...it's going to take a long time for them to build that up. However, assuming we stay in the Sun Belt long-term we need the others to elevate their level of play...rising tide syndrome.

They will never get the UGA or GT fans. Athens, GA more than triples it's population on game days. Fans drive hour to Athens just to watch the game in a bar. People in Georgia love their Dawgs. Once they win more and more, the locals who don't support GT will slowly become fans. I dislike Charlie Cobb with a passion, but I have to give him props for some of the changes he has created in a relatively tough competitive market. Georgia State success helps make The Sun Belt a more competitive and relevant (Nationwide) conference.

Just because they're in Atlanta doesn't mean fans will ever care about them. And the baseball layout around a football stadium isn't ideal, though it doesn't really matter as long at they can fit their entire crowd on one side with room to spare.

The small side.

Fans are not guaranteed anywhere. I realize that, but in a city with the population Atlanta has it creates more opportunities for base growth.

Theoretically, yes, but it's just one of those cities that's not really that big on college sports. Georgia Tech struggles to get people to their games, so I don't see why Georgia State would have it easier. Kind of like BC in Boston.

Because they clearly are not on their way up. Time will tell if this is a short-term trend, but I will go on record as not wishing them any luck in getting their act back together. We don't need them, and we never did. They needed us.

We do need them and need them to be strong. Our conference is at or near the bottom and that will not change with weak teams. We have another FCS team coming in next year. We need all the strength we can get from the rest of us.
