How long are the television rights for this current CFP in play for?

"I really believe in this system, that if you play the right schedule, that you're going to have an opportunity to be in the discussion," said MWC commissioner Craig Thompson. "Will you be a semifinalist? Very challenging. But you will be in the conversation."

Great, I can't wait until we raise our first "In the Conversation" banner!

"Each time there's been a change, it's been for the better," said Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson. "With all due respect to UCF, if we didn't have the system we have today, would they be playing in the Peach Bowl last week?"

That was infuriating to read. All the G5 commissioners are bastards plain and simple.

They just don't want to say anything to tick off the P5 commissioners lest the CFP money dry up.

What if the expansion didn't include a G5 autobid, I'd vote against that too.

Paraphrasing a Scot Frost interview. The champion shouldn't be decided by a committee sitting in a conference room.

Until you give everyone an equal chance, it is always going to be debatable.

Next up from the NCAA: Rotating Conferences- Every season all 128 teams go into a hat and they are picked one by one into a different conference

With our luck, we will be put in with Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St. Georgia, and the upper echelon.

Personal conjecture...this is commissioner speak. Perhaps a proposed 8 team playoff model does not currently include a guaranteed G5 representative and they're waiting for a more favorable atmosphere.

Facts...since the implementation of the playoff the highest ranked G5s have been as follows:

Year - Team - (Record) - regular season P5 Wins (Bowl Results)
2017 - UCF (13-0) - N/A (Won bowl game vs Auburn)
2016 - W. Michigan (13-1) - Northwestern, Illinois (Lost bowl game vs Wisconsin)
2015 - Houston (13-1) - Louisville, Vandy (Won bowl game vs Florida State)
2014 - Boise St (12-2) - N/A (Won bowl game vs Arizona)

Final rankings:

2017 - UCF - TBD (Currently 10th)
2016 - W. Michigan - 15th
2015 - Houston - 8th
2014 - Boise St - 16th

On our radio show we discussed the following points: The committee has shown they value any and all wins over quality losses...therefore it behooves P5s to schedule a mediocre OOC schedule. G5s who aim to make a legitimate push for a playoff need to schedule as many P5s as possible and win them because none of our conference schedules are doing us any favors. Those two points play into each other.

UCF goes undefeated again next year and they may actually have a shot. Seriously, I think that's what it would take for a G5 to make the CFP. If UCF goes 12-0 next year will they really have the 'intestinal fortitude' to leave them out? I doubt it. But I think that's the only way a G5 team could ever sneak in, go undefeated twice in a row, it would be damn hard to argue they aren't one of the best 4 teams in the country.

Boise also has a shot next year. UCF was hurt by only 1 P5 game vs football mecca Maryland.

Western Michigan played Northwestern and Illinois.

Instead of Galileo with "Eppur si muove" the CFP response will be "Non siamo ancora commossi."

Heard one of the ESPN radio shows last Saturday and the guy made a great point- BCS college football is THE only major sport where, before the season starts, virtually half of the teams have zero chance to play for the championship, i.e. the G5’s. He was spot on. Basically a team like App would have to play and beat probably 4 good to really good P5 teams and hope their conference is competitive. Of course it’s about impossible to put that kind of schedule together years in advance and then hope for the perfect storm.

Half is a conservative estimate.

Forgive me because it's going to sound like I'm being pedantic but I promise I'm not...the BCS system no longer exists. I personally have fought the "FBS/FCS" and "1-AA is still division 1" fights for years. Let's get it right when talking about it. This is the college football playoff. Not the BCS.

Back to Benson: If you're not advocating for your conference's inclusion in the college football playoffs, then you're not doing your job.

Tomato tommato (sp.)

Old habits hard to break. Zero chance to be in the CFP.
